For example, have you ever come across a piece of stock music that actually slapped the face off ya? Or a stock image that could easily make it onto your wall in a mahogany frame if it wasn't for the Shutterstock watermark?

There's a lovely Ted Talk about how he found himself a meme, and how much he appreciates being able to bring joy to people, and travel because of it.

I'm not sure it's exactly what you're going for but the Wii Shopping channel music kicked ass. Additionally the 1988 Crystal Light Aerobics Championship has this jam

Winamp! It really whips the llama's ass...

also the "kick" ringtone on my old Nokia candybar

The music Kevin Macleod writes either ends up being the boppiest thing you ever heard or the Bane of Your Existence. There are quite a few of his that TikTok has destroyed by putting on every fucking video.

Not sure if CC BY 4.0 counts? There's an incredibly based Japanese producer 森田交一 (often goes by the alias 魔王魂) who released a lot of their music as CC BY 4.0. Hence a lot of them end up in all kinds of small projects, RPGMaker games, etc...

The website is https://maou.audio/, but the guy is also active on YouTube. 12345 is a bop; I was genuinely positively surprised by Burning Heart the first time I heard it, although J-pop may not be up everyone's alley so

Say what you will, I think the default Windows 95 login sound was really good.

Onestop.mid was one of a handful of midi files that could be found in the C:\Windows\Media folder on certain Windows installations. It's a midi file, so obviously not super high fidelity or anything, but it honestly slaps pretty hard.

[–] DandomRude@piefed.social 3 points 3 months ago

Ah, yes, that's right.

canyon.mid is also a real classic, even if it's not quite as funky.

There's a stock wind instrument recording that showed up in a bunch of places in 90's media. It's right at the start of "Distant Mountain" from Suikoden.

Look into library music. You’ve been listening to badass stock music all your life: https://youtu.be/aTYA0th9x2Y
