From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Yesterday I won a bet and I will be installing Linux on his laptop, what distro would teach that fucker a lesson?

Ubuntu Christian Edition, if he's a satanist.

Ubuntu Satanic Edition, if he's a Christian.

Hannah Montana Linux, if he's neither of the above.

Heard of it actually, are the creator of that fork? If so, PORTUGAL CARALHO !!!!

The best distro? One that he'll be able to use easily. One that will get him to actually LIKE the experience.

You don't want to teach him a lesson by giving him a miserable experience.

You want to teach him a lesson that will let you say "I told you so" for the rest of his life.

Manjaro is pretty easy to use and seems to have good hardware compatibility. A variety of Ubuntu flavors also can mimic Windows and work really well.

Thx for the recommendations, but yeah this is just a parody wanted to see the distros people would come up with.

Gentoo, from scratch. No bin-kernal or premade binarys. Just a ungodly long compile time Maybe by day 3 he will have a desktop if hes lucky....

NixOS, you need to learn a programming language just to administer your system

[–] ransomwarelettuce@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

As someone who actually likes NixOS have never felt so offended with something that I somewhat agree.

I still have the installation CD's for Red Hat from 2002. I can mail them to you?

I'd go with something based on Gentoo so you would have an easy install process and they would have to live with the pain of compiling from source.

[–] ransomwarelettuce@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Gentoo has turned into an hibrid between binary-source unfortunately, so I would go for something spicier like LFS.
