Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.

I can consistently lift tens of kilos of things, I even sometimes do that for fun. However, yesterday I dropped a fork. This means I'm inconsistent as a character and my writers are lazy

This is how Invincible writers fuck with powerscalers

Disney disregarding and overwriting old stuff and making it make less sense? They don't do that with starwars, you take that back!

/s for the slow of thought

Well makes sense, as Lando is wearing a heavy set of plot armor.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A blind man saw to free him. Nothing stops Lando.

Han didn't see, he's Force-sensitive, as are many who don't realize it.

As for Lando vs. the ship, not all canon is good canon. A saarlac that has that much awareness and strength for what it is doesn't make any sense. And yes, I realize that's bringing Star Trek rationality to a Star Wars conversation... but still, there has to be a bit of realism kept.

Jabba was probably throwing people into the Sarlacc pit weekly. Even when Lando was falling in it had people falling in left and right. Sure the Sarlacc wanted to eat Lando but even easier food was literally falling right into its mouth.

But after? I don't think Bib Fortuna was making as many trips to the Sarlacc pit. Poor thing was probably hungry.

IIRC the canon explanation actually kinda makes sense; While the grab-and-eat reflex is subconscious for a sarlacc, this particular sarlacc was a strict vegetarian and was fighting the reflex to consume Lando (and others) whenever they were thrown in; with the ship it was not trying to restrain itself since it was acting primarily in self defense.

That’s the dumbest explanation possible and I can only hope that you’re making that up.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Alas no, this is real.

I'm not a big star wars fan, but I really do respect their dedication to filling in plotholes by any means necessary

As seen in the films it would still consume meat - it just did not do it by choice.

(don't hurt me, I didn't write it)

Still better than "somehow, Palpatine returned".

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

AND THIS TIME, HE'S GOT A BRAND. NEW. PLAN.

[–] myrrh@ttrpg.network 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

...to be fair, flooding the galaxy with a secret army of clones and a ghost fleet was a brand new plan after three death stars in a row, if, like, you ignore his first plan, from, like, the first movie, you know, where he was secretly building an army of clones and a ghost fleet...

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

"You know, what if we put the planet destroying lasers on the ghost fleet?"

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Okay, so morally it wants to be a vegetarian, not it’s being force fed humanoid aliens?

Feels a little silly but I appreciate someone thought it through.

Yes, this comes from a short story set during the period when C3P0 is wandering the desert - he stops to talk to the Almighty Sarlacc and it explains its position:

«So you keep calling me the almighty Sarlacc, which feels a bit cheeky, to be honest. Absolutely nobody has ever bothered to ask my opinion about anything before, and you keep feeding people to me without my consent. How exactly am I all-powerful?» ―The sarlacc, to C-3PO

Thanks, I hate it

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And the other one subsisted on a diet of spaceships?

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

No, they're the same sarlacc (the Almighty Sarlacc)

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So Star Wars ships are made of vegetables?

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Wouldn't be the dumbest thing in the canon.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

Meesa sad about dis.

[–] RedFrank24@piefed.social 4 points 23 hours ago

It's probably just a matter of how much you resist. A human can't really resist very much so the Sarlacc doesn't have to put much effort into dragging him in. A ship is pulling pretty hard, so the Sarlacc has to put much more effort into dragging it down.

[–] baronvonj@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

What's the lifespan and maturity cycle of a sarlacc? I can't recall, was this the same sarlacc? Maybe it hit puberty between the two events. You know how toddlers like to play with food, could have just been toying with Lando. Maybe it had children and had gained sarlacc Dad strength by the time it ate the ship.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Or, the Saarlac had a lot of will/intention with the space ship ...and almost none with lando.

You know it's a bit like saying "A kitten must be very heavy if a weight lifter can lift them, because they can ALSO lift a 100 kg weight".
