Humans are the most disrespectful animal in the animal kingdom, and there's no close 2nd.

Imagine a vampire movie where the vampire is based on mosquitoes instead of blood bats. After sucking out your blood, you're bleeding out, about to die, and this piece of shit unzips and pisses on you.

Actually vampire bats often urinate while they're feeding as well, turns out if your diet is liquid based, it helps to expel liquid while you eat!

That's interesting. TIL. Thank you for the article.

I think the vomiting part is the grossest part. Lol.

You have to wonder about how they take pictures like this. Maybe a box full of mosquitos: "stick your arm in here - for science" then "quick! Put your arm here. Don't move. Don't even breathe".

[–] Tomassci@sh.itjust.works 4 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Are you sure on the "don't breathe?" Don't mosquitoes detect gases in breath?

[–] graycube@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

I was thinking that you have to hold very still for macrophotography like that to come out so clear.

[–] Promethiel@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

It literally is a box full of mosquitoes lol.

Researchers do stick their hands in, and they absolutely breathe because the enclosures can be used to selectively control the air exchange and you sometimes need to elicit a response.

You're correct that mosquitoes find us in big part by detecting the co2 we expel during respiration.

The bastards, the only way to avoid them is when you stop breathing.

They also spit into the wound they create, as it’s an analgesic (pain reducer). I’d call it rude too but it’s a service both ways.

That’s regurgitation is how they transmit disease. Fuck mosquitoes.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Fuck mosquitoes.

That sounds like another way to transmit disease.

[–] notwhoyouthink@lemmy.zip 7 points 14 hours ago

By all accounts, it’s saliva. They have a separate tube for drinking and another for injecting saliva that numbs and also prevents blood clotting. Because of this system, regurgitation is rare.

The saliva also transmits disease, in fact the saliva makes the infection more effective via suppressing the immune system response and has been shown to attract immune cells to the bite site making it easier for some viruses to ‘recruit’ them and spread faster.

Some people pay for women to pee on them.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 5 points 14 hours ago

Oh, so easy to say. I've literally stood outside busy stores, offering cash-in-hand, and the vast majority of women look at me like I'm just some sort of low-life creep. It sucks.

[–] WasteTime@hexbear.net 1 points 16 hours ago

Vinchucas are worse, they shit on the bite wound and give you chagas disease.

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

They suck. But I've recently experienced sand flies and they are even worse.

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 1 points 16 hours ago

They suck
