Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

MODERATORS

The phrase “tax the rich” can be “just as hateful as some disgusting racial slurs”, according to the New York City billionaire Steve Roth, who said that the top 1% should be “praised and thanked”.

Speaking on his company’s quarterly earnings call on Tuesday, Roth, the CEO of Vornado Realty Trust, expressed his support for fellow billionaire and the CEO of Citadel, Ken Griffin, who was singled out in the 15 April announcement by New York’s mayor, Zohran Mamdani, of the state’s first “pied-à-terre” tax on second homes valued at more than $5m. In a video, Mamdani announced the policy in front of Griffin’s penthouse, which he said was purchased for $238m.

The sooner they learn that "tax the rich" is the moderate compromise, the better

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

They need more Luigi to compare and contrast

[–] pipi1234@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They won't learn shut until we revolt.

[–] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Unfortunately that's true. I'm armed to the teeth just waiting for the pendulum to swing that way.

There are other ways to make them learn than words.

[–] DiarrheaSommelier@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Unfortunately by the time the lesson has sunk into their stupid heads, those heads are on the floor.

Absolutely this.

Praised and thanked?

Careful Steve, you might dislocate your shoulder or wrist when you jerk yourself off that hard.

I'll praise and thank any billionaire that pays their fair share of taxes, pays their employees ALL a living wage, and doesn't spend money influencing political or corporate ideals (aka when hell freezes over).

ROFLMAO Actually laughed out loud at this. 😂

Like, we all assumed they were comically evil villains and we joke that they might talk and think like this.

But the confirmation of it is somehow hilarious to me. Their complete lack of understanding of the world, the zero self awareness, the cheap attempt for sympathy while lounging on the weary bones of the entire working class.

If EVER we needed that smoking gun to show that class has nothing to do with intelligence or hard work, this definitely goes on the wall.

LOL, sir. 🖕 Taxes are the most humane thing coming to you and your ilk, you filthy curr. I thumb my nose at you, indeed! Go forth and repent to all those you hath wronged, or freely go fucketh thyself to expiry, thank you VERY MUCH.

Wonder how he's gonna feel about "Eat the rich". I'm hungry.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 21 points 2 days ago

He's really not gonna like the next phase, then.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago

He's gonna be dismayed to learn what people will be calling for if they continue to squeeze the working class.

[–] Neon_Carnivore@lemmy.zip 17 points 2 days ago

Eat the rich.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Are the rich really a race? I don't think so

We need the French to show us how to properly riot.

[–] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

I've always preferred "eat the rich" anyways.

[–] HeroicBillyBishop@lemmy.ca 15 points 2 days ago

tax the rich

[–] Fishnoodle@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

I'm perfectly fine with vivisecting them, if he prefers that

[–] icedaemon0@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Tax the rich

[–] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 9 points 2 days ago

IDK man, slurs seem preferable to slugs.

[–] Rusticus@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

"Let them eat cake"

-Steve Roth, probably

[–] magnue@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

If that's true then I'm a massive racist.

[–] oopsgodisdeadmybad@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 days ago

Fuck that guy, but only in every way he doesn't consent to.

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 6 points 2 days ago

Tax the rich :3

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

If only they had some way to disassociate themselves from that demographic… Too bad they were born into it :( Let’s all cry for the billionaires.

[–] FlowerFan@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 days ago

I mean, it can.

Or it can be just meant as a "let every member profiting from society pay back to it accordingly".

Most of the time it's the latter.
