Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Almost two-thirds of respondents said US used to be a great place for immigrants but no longer is

Donald Trump’s aggressive and wide-reaching immigration-enforcement agenda has convinced increasing numbers of adults that the US is no longer a welcoming country for outsiders, a new poll has found.

About six in 10 respondents to the Associated Press-NORC poll, conducted last month, say the country used to be a great place for immigrants, but no longer is.

Another one-third said they or somebody they knew personally had been affected by the Trump administration’s crackdown in the previous 12 months, rising to about 60% of Hispanic adults.

I will clarify for non-Americans.

We, the American people are just as welcoming as we've always been. Half will open their arms to you, ang give you a welcoming hug. Half are racist, and stupid.

It's the American government which is no longer welcoming to immigrants.

So to any immigrants thinking of visiting, DON'T.

I don't say this out of hate. I say this out of protection to you. Don't come to America. You are not safe here. Shits bad. Same way I wouldn't reccomend any Jewish people to vacation in Germany in the early 1940s. That's where we are right now. Stay safe by staying home.

Yeah, honestly at this point I question the mental facilities of immigrants coming to america. This place is actively hostile to your health and well being.

Your either insanely desperate or insanely stupid to want to come here right now.

Do you think it has anything to do with the anti immigrant fascist in chief, who is enacting anti immigrant policies?

What gave it away, the daily hateful rhetoric, the persecution of American citizens who look like they might be immigrants, the murder of peaceful protestors, the oppression of entire cities with ICE "surges", or the concentration camps? How much more does it take before the other 4 in 10 start wondering if it's a great place for Americans anymore, nevermind immigrants? Are they going to continue withholding judgement until the ovens and gas chambers are being used? Or has Fox News simply turned them all permanently into drooling red-hat-wearing Nazi ghouls?

So over one third of Americans think they're a beacon if freedom for the weary and downtrodden?

We're welcoming to immigrants if you're the right kind of immigrant. Specifically white or rich. Preferably both.

Maybe they’re thinking back to the “no Irish need apply” signs, the Chinese exclusion act, internment camps, or any of the other fucked up ways we’ve treated immigrants over our history.

I mean if it honks like a goose and attacks like goose.

As a 40+ year old first generation American I can say my personal experience is that by and large it has not been exactly welcoming to immigrants for decades.

I once believed that it was getting better but Americans then let me know that once again I was and still not exactly welcome.
