This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

I just tried this on an iPhone 13 and it runs like a charm. No touch controls so only works with a controller or keyboard.

Downloaded before Nintendo strikes (yeah the project is legal, but also it's on GitHub)

Been playing this, and it's great! Started right up at 9x resolution, wasn't too hard to setup a high quality texture pack, and the game is looking sharp at 4k/120 without any issues!

Things look great, and this launching with features like gyro aim, free cam, and QoL like fast climbing and skipping that damn rupee cutscene is phenomenal.

Also, man, can't wait to come back to this in a year or two with a randomizer and whatever other features they can pack in here.

I’m glad we have high res options but I always immediately set these to 1x res. I ❤️ the jaggies.

To be fair, at this time the game was still being designed on CRTs (LCDs existed but everything except footprint size was a downgrade - and they still are if you ask me), so the intended way to play the game from the artists perspective is still at 1x on a CRT, which effectively masks pixels edges with the CRTs inherent picture softening.

Yeah, I love that they so easily provide a "faithful" and "enhanced" version. One button at startup and it runs just like it would on the GameCube, or you can go all out like me!

Bonus, here's a great Reddit comment that helped me setup a texture pack. Really helps with how soupy those Wii/GC grass and rock textures look at high resolution: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1t8rtet/comment/okx8awj/

https://www.henrikomagnifico.com/zelda-twilight-princess-4k

Extract: ZTP 4K 3.0b (4K).zip/ZTP4K 3.0b (4K)/User/Load/Textures/GZ2/ To(copy the path from here and put in the address bar):

  • Windows: %appdata%/TwilitRealm/Dusk/texture_replacements/

  • Linux: ~/.local/share/TwilitRealm/Dusk/texture_replacements/

  • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/TwilitRealm/Dusk/texture_replacements/

I'll add bonus instructions on how to copy the file to bypass Google drives download limit. I had to create a new folder in Google Drive, click the kebab menu on the file, "Create a Shortcut" into that folder, and then go into my drive and download the folder. Seems to cheat Drive's download limit, and I imagine that'll be a problem for the next little while now that Dusk has released.

Will a Wii dump work with this? I find it difficult to decipher the exact requirements for making this work.

[–] 0k_@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

NTSC or PAL GameCube only rn

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Dang. My private torrent tracker only had the Wii and Wii U versions. And I only have the Wii physical disc. Alright, thanks!

Sounds like an opportunity to find it yourself and then be the first to upload it, right when a whole bunch of other people are about to suddenly decide they need it too.

Wish I could, I don't have a DVD reader at all. I don't know anyone who has a PC with one in the last decade lol.

[–] littlelordfauntleroy@lemmy.zip 30 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Holy shit I need to figure out how to do this!

I think the hard part will be finding/dumping your own gamecube rom. Otherwise, the instructions are pretty easy:

Download Dusk

Windows / macOS / Linux:

  1. Extract the .zip file
  2. Launch Dusk
  3. Press Select Disc Image and provide the path to your supported game dump
  4. Press Play!

Wasn't ironically the first game to enable this Twilight Princess? A buffer overflow in the horse's name, I think.

[–] Ricaz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

These days you just need to get the Wii online and do the EULA DNS hack, fully automated

[–] SomethingBurger@jlai.lu 4 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

You don't even need a game anymore.

Bannerbomb has been around for years and has never needed a game

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Huh. I'm almost certain I've done Bannerbomb on 4.3 systems before, and in fairly recent memory too.

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 2 points 15 hours ago

Crap, I missed the GC part. I have the Wii version.

[–] mrnarwall@lemmy.world 11 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

I will be downloading this and trying it later today!

I've been having issues with games on my Linux mint setup and if this doesn't work I may finally switch to a different flavor os

[–] besmtt@lemmy.world 9 points 14 hours ago

Bazzite has been fantastic for me, it could be for you too!

[–] imecth@fedia.io 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

It's unlikely that whatever issue you're having with your games is because of the desktop environment.

[–] addie@feddit.uk 3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

If your system is all-AMD, then it's amazing how well Linux just works. Turn it on, hardware accelerated everything.

If you've got NVidia anywhere near it, that's not so much the case. If Mint is being a bit dodgy, then I would have used to recommend trying it with Pop!, since that has pretty good driver support out of the box. Probably outdated advice, something like Bazzite might make more sense now, but I've not used it first hand. Partly because my system is all-AMD and just works, but also because I run Arch btw.

[–] TALL421@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago

Bazzite has been my personal best experience with Linux, saying this with a Nvidia gpu, have had very few issues using for about a year now!

[–] zikzak025@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

Really excited for the randomizer mode, will try that out once it's ready
