Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

The seat warmer in your vehicle should have a back-only option for when your back hurts and you don't want to cook your ass.

Some do. Some even let you control the levels of heat independently.

Perhaps, but my 2023 Elantra has three levels of heating and cooling on both the driver and passenger side. Can't pick back vs bottom, but it's still really nice.

[–] SirActionSack@aussie.zone 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Mine has that but doesn't let me have heating and fan on at the same time and I really want that.

[–] bhamlin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Blowing hot air? I didn't know I wanted that. Sign me up. 😳

Had a Buick from 20 years ago that did that.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

2004 Escalade can do it, too.

Maybe it's a mid-2000's GM thing.

GM/Chrysler add gimmicks to mask how shitty the cars are.

Eh...

Going from my experience -- especially with that Escalade -- the interior really is shit, especially for a "luxury" model. A lot of the interior has not aged well and is falling apart ... and wasn't really that nice to begin with. But the actual vehicle is pretty solid. Engine and the rest of the drivetrain are going strong, despite having tons of miles and tons of abuse (I mostly use it for towing/hauling -- often at or above its maximum rated weight -- and dragging things around a horse pasture). Since I only use it for jobs a minivan can't accomplish, I pretty much only use it for very heavy hauling and nasty off-road driving. And as a work truck, it has been very sturdy and reliable. Had a radiator leak when I first got it, and because of several half-assed repairs to that, it went through quite a few episodes of overheating. Finally got that fully sorted though, and despite the abuse, it has still been very dependable, a workhorse with the best of 'em.

Maybe that's just the LS-based engine and truck-based drivetrain, though. I can't speak much to other GM models from the era, since I haven't owned any.

So you're taking a shower to warm your back and to rinse off your cooked ass, huh?

[–] thagoat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

People just don't appreciate a dirty cooked ass any more

[–] Test_Tickles@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

And everybody always wants you to eat it raw.

The only vehicles I have been in that have had seat warmers already had separate back and seat buttons. 🤷‍♂️

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 month ago

What? My cars have had seat warmers for two decades and none of them have done that.

None that I've been in, from my 2013 Leaf to my 2023 Kia Niro. Come to think of it the Leaf was seat-only.

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

OK but get this. There are new cars that are coming with AC seats, you can also control the back separate from the seat

FRED: Hello, what's this?
BOB: Oh, that? That's the butt baker button.
FRED: The ... butt baker button?
BOB: The butt baker button!
FRED: What's the butt baker button?
BOB: Oh, the butt baker button bakes your butt!

TOGETHER:
Oh, the butt baker button bakes your butt,
Yes, the butt baker button bakes your butt!
If your butt's cold and unbakéd
You don't have to get it naked
The butt baker button bakes your butt!

Some luxury models have this, including massage settings. To be honest I dont miss it. But seat cooling would be nice in hot summers.

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 1 points 1 month ago

Yes.

I sweat like a horse, "leather" seats make it worse.

[–] Janx@piefed.social 0 points 1 month ago

Sure, for a subscription. 🤮

I stopped being a car user a few years ago, I get the impression it's very weird these days

[–] Briguy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The only weird thing is making weird comments about it like that

[–] yakko@feddit.uk -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I just think "cook your ass" was funny and unrelatable from my past experiences. I've never had heated seats, so it's like, what? My main experience with car seats is trying to avoid swamp ass on long trips.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

my experience with heated seats:

why does my ass feel embarrassed?

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 1 points 1 month ago

See? That's plain damn weird!
