China may also have provided Iran with a long-range early-warning radar that spots stealth aircraft meant to evade detection, people familiar with the matter tell NBC News

The F-15 fighter that was shot down over southwestern Iran last month and set off a dangerous rescue mission was probably struck by a Chinese-made shoulder-launched missile, three people with knowledge of the matter told NBC News.

In the early days of the conflict, China also may have provided Iran with a long-range early-warning radar that spots stealth aircraft that are meant to evade detection, according to one of the people and a U.S. official with knowledge of the matter.

U.S. officials are still investigating the circumstances around the shootdown of the American F-15E Strike Eagle in April, the sources said. It was the first time in decades that a U.S. fighter was downed by enemy fire.

So what? We fucking invaded them completely unprovoked. They should be shooting our shit down with anything they can get.

There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, 'Play stupid games, shame on...shame on you.' Fool me—you can't get fooled again. But I get to win a stupid prize!

It's a Bushism. From President Bush

Rarely is the question asked: "Is our children learning?"

To be fair, I frankensteined another saying into it.

And American made missiles murdered hundreds of kids.*

*does not include other wars and murders

That F-15 would be completely out of harm's way if the US hadn't illegally attacked Iran. Iran has the right to defend itself.

[–] The_v@lemmy.world 17 points 4 days ago

Hmmm... Iran has tens of thousands of these.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misagh-2

Like its predecessor, the Misagh-2 is based on Chinese technology,[4] and in particular is believed to be an Iranian copy of the Chinese QW-1M MANPADS.

Fucking lazy reporting.

Let's hope Cuba is getting some of that

You think that boat they sent was full of just rice?

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 18 points 4 days ago (1 children)

..and…?

This isn’t even a terribly interesting AAM. It was a short range IR MANPAD.

[–] Telodzrum@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Yeah exactly. It’s not like we thought Iran had an advanced AA platform developed and produced domestically. Ever since we stopped selling them F-14 replace parts five decades ago, they’ve been buying Russian and Chinese hardware.

The real interesting question is how that jet made it through preflight with a bay door malfunctioning so badly that it wouldn’t close after a single use.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There are no models of the F-15 made or flown by any country that have internal weapons stores

[–] Telodzrum@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Wasn’t a munitions bay, it was the rear landing gear bay. There are a bunch of reports about this, not really something one could make up.

But Trump was saying how much the Chinese liked him!!!

[–] green_goglin@thelemmy.club 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Meanwhile, Trump is colluding with China to further devalue the US dollar.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yeah. We just need to remove Trump and then attack the countries that the Democrats war monger over instead. /s

Trump isn't colluding with China. What you are seeing is US presidents being brought to heel by the superiority of the Chinese economy on a global stage. He has no good cards to play and China is able to damage the US influence through it's trade powers alone. America has lost its own game of neoliberalism and "free trade" to a country run by a communist party.

This has been the result of decades of neoliberal policy starting with Carter and exploding with Reagan. This isn't unique to Trump. This is the new normal and Americans are not use to a world in which America can't force it's will on other countries for the benefits of its wealthy oligarchs. So it's more comforting to place all blame on a single incompetent and corrupt president like Trump.

You're confusing this with "collusion" with China because Trump directly takes bribes from other nations. China doesn't have to do that. They are the country that gets to flex on the US right now; as the US empire is crumbling and lashing out at Iran, Cuba, and countless other countries (including Allies).

We got Trump because of the road we were following. We didn't follow this road because we got Trump.

[–] fira@lemmy.today 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I agree with the general thrust of your point, but rather than the US/Trump not having any good cards to play, it’s more like Trump deliberately played multiple self-sabotage cards & is trying to put the blame on CHAINA. As far as other countries like China taking advantage, it doesn’t take a poli-Sci major to figure out how to take advantage of the situation Trump/the US have put themselves in. Just engage in genuine good-faith relations with other countries & don’t be a dick

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 days ago

It's definitely a unique method of failure. But, Trump's failures are mostly due to doing the same US policies that past presidents did but without (1) properly manufacturing consent for war (like Iraq for example) and (2) not actually living in the past where the US was the sole economic superpower.

And, even with this, he is still able to murder innocent fisherman on the coast of Venezuela and kidnap their leader.

[–] emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Devaluing the US dollar benefits the US and hurts countries that hold a lot of dollar, such as Japan, the UK and ... China.

[–] green_goglin@thelemmy.club 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Not when China is actively liquidating their US treasuries and reached an agreement that this process won’t impact the yuan. Question is what asset(s) is the hedge for the delivering.
