Oat milk is the best, even better than regular milk (might be because it has more fat and sugar than my regular milk lol)

[–] ol_capt_joe@piefed.ee 9 points 3 weeks ago

It's a truly wonderful grain.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Also, safe for those of us with a but allergy :-)

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

but allergy

You don't know how you're missing out :p

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Nut ... nut allergy ... and for some reason my spellcheck corrects nut to but.

Anywho, I'm definitely not allergic to buts, thank dog.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Oatmilk might not be safe for gluten sensitive people.

Thank dog for almond milk!

[–] tresspass@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

My favorite is plain soy. I just don't like the gums and sweeteners and the protein is great. Its surprisingly creamy for low fat.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

soy has this wierd aftertaste i never like it.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah it tastes like green

[–] Flames5123@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

So true. It also foams about the same as regular milk so it’s perfect in lattes. It’s perfect for baking too at the easiest 1:1 ratio. It also stays good for longer than regular milk. The only negative is that it’s more expensive, but I think of it as an upgrade.

[–] BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

But it has a grainy after taste, I find it ruins the coffee for me

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 25 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Accurate username to be posting this

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

I too enjoy a nice bowl of nutbutter and cannedtuna

[–] orlyowl@piefed.ca 18 points 3 weeks ago (6 children)

FYI I seem to recall that almond milk is horrible for the environment because of the quantity of almonds and water required. Oat milk is supposed to be the better choice from that perspective, and supposedly it's easy to make yourself but I haven't tried that.

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 26 points 3 weeks ago

Here's a breakdown for some of the popular ones; almond milk is problematic for its water usage, but even accounting for locale, it doesn't even come close to dairy milk.

That is, don't let "perfect" be the enemy of "better" if your choice of milk is part of your environmentalism and you like almond milk.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 15 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

That's just almonds in general. The trees consume a shitton of water. But it's still less water usage than dairy farming.

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 7 points 3 weeks ago

or a new data center

[–] Hazel@piefed.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 weeks ago

Oat milk is surprisingly annoying to make, it quickly turns into a slimy mess.

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

I drink soy personally. It has a good amount of nutrition, closer to regular milk than the others if I'm not mistaken.

I actually now prefer almond milk over real milk. Low carb, I already like almonds, and it lasts for like 3 months

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 weeks ago

i can see why some avoid oat because of the sugar content.

[–] toomanypancakes@crazypeople.online 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Cashew milk and oat milk are both great. I have no idea how almond milk ever took off.

[–] feannag@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 weeks ago

Agreed. It doesn't taste food, takes a ton of water, and splits super bad in hot drinks. Just all around bad.

[–] Dearth@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

They're both shit. Almonds and cashews take a fuckton of water to grow. Then they add more water to make "milk" to ship around the country.

Make your own oat milk. Is superior to all other milks and you don't need fancy equipment to do it

[–] nutbutter@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 3 weeks ago

It becomes very slimy, I've tried it. People say you need enzymes. I've considered spitting in it, but that would mean others won't drink it.

Personally, I use soy milk for nearly everything.

Also, this post is about milking nuts. Oats are not nuts.

[–] AbsolutePain@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

I support this but to anyone not drinking plant milk yet: just start with the off-the-shelf ones, they're not shit lol, might make you realize you might to try making your own.

[–] Una@europe.pub 7 points 3 weeks ago

Bull milk 🥛

[–] OriginEnergySux@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Me drinking my dads breast milk in my 30s coz all plant-based milk is gross

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 6 points 3 weeks ago

Bullshit.

If almond milk tasted like spit, I'd enjoy it. 😤

[–] janus2@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 weeks ago

soy milk wasn't invited to this meme and as someone for whom it's their second favorite bean water I'm offended

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 5 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Almond milk is actually very good, the problem is to find the good ones, many companies will just make dirty water, but some companies just make it so good...

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I thought you said they used dirty water and I'm like excuse me what

[–] AbsolutePain@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Sadly i don't remember, where i currently live they sell the good ones only in some stores but surpsingly in the opposite side of my country the good one is sold everywhere, even in pubs, bar, coffe etc etc

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago
[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

How do I perform that one?

[–] baguettefish@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 3 weeks ago

almond milk tastes like marzipan which is nice

just a shame I'm not really into marzipan

[–] crazycraw@crazypeople.online 3 points 3 weeks ago

I don't mind almond milk that has been flavored with vanilla but yeah oat milk is good. cashew is ok. never had hazelnut or walnut/pecan whatever that is, and...

y no hemp seed milk ? it's as good as the others.

[–] MadamLarp@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

K I actually thought this was supposed to be a joke about the blue milk in the first movie.

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I just tried pistachio milk. Eh

[–] xx3rawr@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I thought pistachio milk tastes pretty good

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago

It was the first time I saw any, it was some brand I never heard of as well but it was on special. I guess it's not that bad, the flavor and texture was fine. My main use case for milk, animal or otherwise, is foaming it up for coffee. I haven't tried that yet.
