Lol fuck bluesky, they intentionally suppressed epstein as a trending topic when it was picking up steam. Like, they disabled the tag and cleared whole feeds.

This is a subtly good thing for the fediverse, assuming they are able to draw people away from Reddit. Divide and conquer.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 hours ago

Drew me, more people will come

[–] dil@lemmy.zip 18 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Once ppl are comfortable using one alternative they'll feel comfortable using others

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Or they'll just stick with what they got.

[–] stephen01king@piefed.zip 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's usually the first migration that people are most resistant to. The 2nd or 3rd time is a lot easier.

[–] Flagstaff@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago

Yes, there's a major activation energy barrier for the first time. For example, for me moving to Linux, Oracle VirtualBox was absolutely instrumental in helping me feel more comfortable. Reddit itself was also weird at first and off-putting until I simply tried magnifying the font size; back then, we only had what-is-now-Old Reddit, which was a pain to navigate at 100% size until I got used to it. Anyway, hopefully this Bluesky development will finally break X's might, even if it's not that much better of an alternative... and then gradually grow our own numbers here on Lemmy.

NGL, I rotate among at least 4 accounts across different instances here lol. It was originally out of accident because of my misunderstanding back then of how the Fediverse works, but now I just randomly use them as a simultaneous, illusory boost to Lemmy's activity as well as my own pseudo-privacy lol. I like to think that it helps overall...

Lemmy think it over and I'll get back to ya.

If you think corporate owned social media will ever be anything but a constant downhill ride, I got a bridge to sell ya.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I would like to be able to navigate up a comment chain. Sometimes, people will reply to an old comment I've made and I can't figure out which one it was. Is this some quirk of twitter that got brought over to bsky?

[–] silentjohn@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 day ago

I'd say it's by design. It's not meant to facilitate discussion. It's meant for short zingers to be shared.

[–] garretble@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

I just want them to take a few minutes and make an iPad app because the default app running on iPad sucks shit.

[–] alexquiniou@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

Laught in Lemmy.

[–] IllNess@infosec.pub 62 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Running out of ideas and the flow of users are slowing down.

[–] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 30 points 2 days ago (5 children)

The place quickly turned into a silo of hand grenade throwing echo chambers. Some hilarious takes by people who have completely lost touch of reality.

If I said this in Bluesky they would just assume I was talking about Truth Social.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 46 points 2 days ago (9 children)

Sounds a bit like Lemmy lol

[–] mesamunefire@piefed.social 21 points 2 days ago

This style of posting lends itself to having "hot takes" get upvoted and actual discussions have middling success.

At least with us, you can chose the tech and put it up yourself. Like right now you are using slrpnk.net and im using piefed.social on a lemmy.world server. Without any issues. We (the collective WE) made this happen without huge billionaires having a strangle hold on the way we interact. Its not perfect, but its better than a LOT of the alternatives.

I keep seeing the echo chamber thing but at this point most social media sites are. Bluesky is just a left leaning one, which is the only thing that really sets it apart.

I keep seeing the echo chamber thing but at this point most social media sites are. Bluesky is just a left leaning one, which is the only thing that really sets it apart.

I mean honestly I think left leaning is basically being neutral and accepting scientific consensus. To me the non federated part of bluesky is kind of what makes me consider it a time bomb. Even if it were good now, we already know one owner switch, hostile takeover, threats from the government etc... can flip a network around faster than you can blink. It's why I literally see federation as the only way forward for the internet, and find it so ridiculous that everyone bolted to bluesky to escape twitters crash instead of mastadon. It's the same key problem. it can go down in moments.

I wouldn't say it's left leaning... Its definitely liberal leaning. Which almost makes it more insufferable than a conservative lean sight.

Since Lemmy and bluesky are both open and federated networks, it should be possible to bridge these.

[–] M33@piefed.world 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Let’s cut the bullshit and start a $3.99 subscription already

We all know this is how it will end

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 16 points 2 days ago

I mean, it could just get sold to a massive advertising tracking and data pushing company. Or at this rate the FCC will find some BS statute to accuse it for and find a way to give it to Musk or Elison.

I'm ok with Lemmy, thanks

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Bluesky died pretty fast. They gave up. I have an account there but at this point is more out of spite

[–] user_name@programming.dev 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Really? I find it a lot more active than lemmy

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I should clarify. It’s not dead as in empty, it’s dead as in the feel for the whole thing changed to corporate BS.

[–] silentjohn@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It was VC funded and built by the same guy who built Twitter, what you expect?

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

I expected him to do this the easy way and win by being something users could flee to.

[–] spacegoat@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I get why there was a niche for Bluesky after X was purchased by a Nazi, but the Twitter UI/community/content was always trash to begin with. It wasn’t worth replacing. It’s the TikTok of text-based social media.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

He should had vine. Instead Harambe died and we got tiktok.

I do like the idea of more competition to reddit here but we'll see how well it does. I know bluesky is considered like fauxfediverse but it's better than nothing as far as mainstream apps go.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The only reason it is currently better is that it is comparatively smaller than the mainstream apps. The more successful and mainstream it becomes the more it with enshittify.

Thats cool, maybe if it becomes popular I will use it alongside Lemmy.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Anyone who expects BlueSky to go down a different road than Twitter probably has stock.

woof. Why can’t platforms just be themselves.

Also, Twitter tried this under Elon and recently changed their minds after, I assume, it didn’t work out like they had hoped?

[–] cronenthal@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 2 days ago

Can't enshittify something that's shit from the start.
