Ex. Tra. Ads. They're in the games.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 1 points 19 hours ago

Why would anyone play that shit?

[–] BlackLaZoR@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

They're desperate. What happened to all the live service games that were supposed to bring billions and billions of dollars forever?

The only titles I recognize from EA lately are Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 6.

And I didn't buy them. Because EA fucked me. And also because they don't work on Linux.

EA has been doing this for more than a decade already; they just weren't promoting the ad sales pipeline publicly.

LOL sucks to suck, competitive "gamers." Single player for life, bitches.

Either way, when you’ve paid $70 for a game, the idea that you then are still going to be bombarded by commercials as you play is pretty damned galling

Oh, I'd say that it pretty much tracks the sports experience that it's trying to simulate.

An average NFL game: more than 100 commercials and just 11 minutes of play

Anyone who watches through this is a completely cucked simp. Might as well work for free, then bend over and take it from daddy.

Glad I don't play sports titels, but bloody hell. In addition to paying for a full game and getting bunch of MTXs and season passes. Now we need to suffer through ads as well.

Why the hell are we even paying for a game in the first place. I've seen free mobile games with a better approach.

If I'm paying i don't want to see any ads, how hard is that to get through to CEOs?

Well, you're also not the target audience. This is aimed at the people who buy Madden every year, who are already inured to predatory monetization, and so will probably just roll over and take it.

You know...morons.

My local basketball team recently made it almost to the finals, so my wife and I felt obliged to watch a couple of the games. Holy shit, there was so much advertising. Even when they challenged a call and they had 15 seconds or so they still stick an ad on the screen. They even have ads that are digitally super imposed on the court and you can tell cause they don’t always clip correctly around the players but who cares if it interrupts your watching cause we need our money.

So what's everyone's favorite Indie sports games?

[–] DragonAce@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The entire concept of EA releasing a new 2K sports game every year is absolutely asinine. The fact that people shell out money for that bullshit is even more ridiculous. There are usually little to no changes from one game to the next outside of simple roster updates, which is something that could easily be done with a game update or they could have setup a subscription service to autoupdate rosters. EA is a shit company that creates shit games and it enshitifies every games it gets the rights to.

Great era is incoming adblock in games...

I've lived 43 years with never buying an EA sports title. I think I'll manage the rest.

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The NFL Street, NBA Street, and SSX series were peak EA Sports (BIG).

Been downhill since

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Archon was goood. And wasn't it EA who made (or at least distributed) Pitfall?

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Remember when Jared Kushner and other ghouls bought them

[–] SreudianFlip@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I was just about to hold my nose and buy Battlefield 6, then they did that.

At least that would fit, thematically. I think if one played a Kushner Mass Effect it would cause some kind of tear in reality. Major bummer.

[–] datavoid@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I bought it like a week before, was extremely not impressed.

[–] SreudianFlip@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Well, BF4 still has an active player base at least!

It is so incredibly kind, all the marketing that companies like EA are doing for indie titles completely free of charge!

If you buy an EA sports game nowadays... you're kinda looking for it. But hey, your money, your rules, I guess? Enjoy it, I suppose.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

I already avoid their games. Indies and other good studios are more worth it.
