Voyager is great, +1 for those who haven't tried it. Works great with my self hosted instance.

[–] BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

idk what im gonna do without jerboa. fuck google

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 28 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

The notification doesn't say development is ending, just that the app will stop working on phones ruining Google's rootkit

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 2 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

That's fair, but it's asking a little much of users to start direct dowloading apks or whatever to get their leftist shitposting app and if I wanted to try that hard for anything but an adblocker it wouldn't be an Android in the first place.

I mean, if you're serious about ideology, you probably won't mind taking a few extra steps for it. If the status quo pisses you off, why not do something that's ultimately still free and only takes a little more time?

[–] BetterDev@programming.dev 9 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

OK you're allowed to just not do that.

The rest of us who are willing to put some effort in will likely not notice your absence.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 2 points 5 hours ago

Sure, it'll be just one person lol

[–] Kuma@lemmy.world 7 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

For ppl who use the browser and do not like apps, try your instances ui sub domains (if they have any), on Lemmy world do we have multiple, the one I like is https://photon.lemmy.world/

otherwise: I am using the app Voyager if reading on my phone which has been good to me but it is pretty much a wrapped PWA app

[–] Xylight@lemdro.id 2 points 14 hours ago

I would use phtn.app because it lets you log into any instance, and it's also up-to-date. The lemmy.world version is over a year old

[–] GaumBeist@lemmy.ml 6 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

What do the apps have that the browser doesn't?

[–] spicehoarder@lemmy.zip 1 points 43 minutes ago

I like Boost because it seems to work really well in low connectivity areas.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 4 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Personally I just think it looks a lot better, and I prefer the infinite scroll. There are some things the browser version does better, like accessing the modlogs and such. I guess, metaphorically, those are your clothes "sorting piles" on the floor.

[–] Stamau123@lemmy.world 19 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Sad, jerboa was my first experience with lemmy, but soon after switched to Voyager

[–] HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 2 points 15 hours ago

Jerboa was my first lemmy app, which had it's quirks I think. Then I switched to Infinity, and finally Voyager. Voyager is the best app I've used.

[–] Mastersmacks@reddthat.com 13 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Come on over to boost or Voyager

[–] Ghis@lemmy.world 7 points 17 hours ago

Voyager is sick

[–] MrVilliam@sh.itjust.works 10 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I have Connect, and Voyager as a backup. I prefer Connect. It sounds like a few people here dig Summit; is it better than Connect, and if so, how?

[–] capt_wolf@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

I've tried almost all of them, Connect had the nicer feel and I was able to customize it similar to BaconReader. The dev is quick to respond and push fixes too.

[–] Luffy879@lemmy.ml 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Github page of jerboa says nothing about this

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Jerboa the app had a pop-up not too long ago basically saying the end was near.

[–] Luffy879@lemmy.ml 19 points 23 hours ago

You mean that Google is restricting sideloading?

That has nothing to do with the Development of Jerboa. They can just as much develop an app according to Androids standard as they could before. The only change is that phones running googles rootkit won't be able to install it.

[–] InFerNo@lemmy.ml 5 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

I use it daily and haven't seen a popup

[–] kinther@lemmy.world 6 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I still use jerboa. Got the pop-up a few times. I will keep using it until the bitter end

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 2 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Ditto. Imo it's the most similar to RIF out of all the Lemmy apps, and just like RIF, I'll use it until it stops working entirely

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

What kinda phone do you have? Other comments suggest it's for Google rootkit, and so I wonder if the message went out to folks who aren't using an Android phone.

I am also so far from a developer so I have no idea.

[–] rain_enjoyer@sopuli.xyz 45 points 1 day ago (2 children)
[–] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 37 points 1 day ago

Android developer verification BS

Well, more like it was stabbed by Google and is bleeding out, but I suppose America and the EU could always decide to do the right thing instead.

[–] ddplf@szmer.info 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've been using Boost for r*ddit years ago and I'm still using Boost for Lemmy today. Shit's too good.

Where are you getting that jerboa is ending support? There's nothing of the sort on github or on /c/jerboa. I've no doubt they're not gonna register a google developer account, but that"s really got nothing to do with development of the app.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The notification sent to users through the app itself.

[–] JakenVeina@midwest.social 9 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I use the app and have received no such notification.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Another user posted an image of it if you're curious to see what you probably just clicked through.

[–] JakenVeina@midwest.social 1 points 3 hours ago

No, I saw that one. It says nothing about jerboa ending support, just that you won't be able to run it on "certified" devices. I.E. I'll have to go through the "allow uncertified apps" nonsense, and install it from somewhere other than Google Play. Presumably it's available on F-Droid.

I'm a big fan of Eternity too, it just feels the best I can't explain it.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 3 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

There are a few of us!!
Best UI by far imho (and a few smol features that benefit my daily use others don't offer or requires more clicks).

We didn't get the normal installing ("side-loading" & displeasing the oligarchy) pop-up but it still affects us.

[–] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 day ago
[–] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have no clue what this is about

[–] FlordaMan@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Jerboa is a lemmy client. “Browser users” are people who use lemmy trough a browser.

[–] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Right. I'll be a browser user till the end then. I have no need for apps that will use extra storage on my device without offering a significantly better experience.

[–] FlordaMan@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago

I don’t know if that’s an iphone thing, but for me browser versions are almost always inferior to apps (less smooth, more prone to random bursts of laggy behavior, longer startup). So I just use voyager.

[–] Shellofbiomatter@lemmus.org 12 points 1 day ago (7 children)

Damn, I'm still going to use it until it stops working completely, but whats the next best alternative?

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

I've been using voyager as my backup

Thunder is my preference

[–] InFerNo@lemmy.ml 2 points 18 hours ago

The inevitable fork that will be created.

After trying a few others, I've stopped at interstellar.. I like it a lot. But I'm also going to try Summit.

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 2 points 8 hours ago

went from Interstellar to Summit (posting from it now). I also use Boost

Summit is good.

[–] hakase@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've been using Summit for the past six months or so and have enjoyed it.
