You are right, it definitely worse back then but with the state of society, I fear it's heading more that direction than not.

good point. A kid in college today wouldn't be able to write as clearly as she did. And yes the decline is by design because clueless people are easier to control. And you can get them to believe any lie even when it totally contradicts reality
