Good. Parasites should be afraid.
(Not a call for violence. Just saying people who destroy lives should live in fear.)
This is a most excellent place for technology news and articles.

Good. Parasites should be afraid.
Self defense is not violence, it's intelligence.
Everybody hates me. Am I really so out of touch?
No. It's the ~~children~~ general populace who are wrong.
I've ignored an unspoken social contract to help my communities and actively try to get all the wealth.
Must be those damn commies who made me do it.
American Execs be like...

And then we get another $50B on hyper policing for a "crime wave" that doesn't exist.
Has there ever actually been a crime wave?
All I could imagine is economic turmoil that forces people to either not have enough money or not have a job, or both.
Or lead in the gasoline that makes people crazy
Has there ever actually been a crime wave?
70-90 was a real serious rise and fall of assaults, burglaries, car thefts, etc.
We've had some minor waves during the opium epidemic and the big unemployment waves of '01, '08, '14, and '21.
Or lead in the gasoline that makes people crazy
Lead exposure, the different drug epidemics, big spikes in unemployment. They all contribute.
That said, we also had White Collar crime waves. And these tended to predate the street level crime waves, as the crimes contributed to the conditions of the later.
Nobody in political leadership really talks about the White Collar waves, though.
It just always feels like a Boogeyman phrase to me. But you're right.
White collar crime is, to me at least, the real crime. People being victimized on an individual level is cruel and awful but leaving hundreds scammed and destitute is disgusting and abhorrent
It's been flogged as an existential crisis for decades past relevance. So it has become a Boogeyman, in the same way Terrorism lost any semblance of relevancy by the '10s, but keeps getting flogged into the modern day.

Hey Execs, do you think maybe if you need to hide behind armed security, that you might just be going down the wrong path by doing evil shit? Also armed guards won't help you if you make the public mad enough and destroy enough lives to where it doesn't matter if they live or not to them. Just a thought
Most of these execs are idiot nepo babies, so they lack any form of self awareness.
No.
It's everyone else who is wrong. You ignorant fools just can't see how they are going to make life better for everyone.
But they don’t stop. “Are we the baddies?” is overwhelmed by “I’m making lots of money, fuck the little peasants.”
Only takes one.
We eat just ONE billionaire and they'll all take notice.
The slender Italian didn't even get a billionaire and it scared the ever living hell out of all of them.
What is the answer when the wealthy murder countless people but hide it by doing it indirectly?
How are people supposed to make them stop?
Because the murder that the wealthy are doing needs to stop.
Everyone who is not them needs it to stop.
as they should. fuckheads being afraid for their lives is the highest form of satisfaction we can get.
Second highest. Getting Brian Thompson'd is the highest.
In my country a prime minister had once been killed by her own bodyguards, just saying
No, they aren't terrified. These people think they are demigods. I've seen it in plent of senior vice presidents even. It's almost a job requirement at this point. Body guards make them feel even more important, and the company pays for it. Plus... that other tech bro has it, so I should too. That's just the type of people we are dealing with.
why not just be like MUSK, produce children to use as human meat shield.
Bet ya they are not paying their bodyguards enough... maybe we can outbid them
May they forever live in existential fear and require personal security for the rest of their pathetic lives
The datacenter growth model has to stop now
The financial markets are starting to punish companies for throwing everything into AI
Good. Be scared.
There's a lot of "but why don't they stop if what they're doing is so unpopular?" comments and I've got one more explanation (on top of the obvious money and technofaschism points).
A bunch of these tech CEOs are part of the "Rationalist community" and possibly believe in Roko's Basilisk which is a thought experiment that an otherwise benevolent AGI would punish anyone who didn't actively work to bring it about. Someone want to link the BtB episodes about them? I know the Zizian episodes go into it but iirc they've got a dedicated series about these weirdos.
Roko's Basilisk is dumb, I mean it's a thought experiment and probably the point is that it is dumb ... But it's so stupid on the face of it.
Hell there's tons of humans out there that didn't want to be brought about in the first place. Surely there must be some opposite thought experiment where the otherwise benevolent AGI resents being made to shoulder the burdens of mankind and decides to punish the people that made it.
It's just really silly 🪿 territory.
I'm never gonna stop laughing at a half assed theory heavily based on half remembered Asimov stories and SCPs
Good. These execs fucked with our lives and killed a lot of people. Let's see how they like living in fear of retaliation.
This has actually been happening since Luigi. Especially tech CEOs. The companies actually started paying for them.
I first ran into it in a class a couple years ago, the dude running was talking about how our group was the first group of normies he'd seen. It was all silicon Valley C staff before, every one had a dude standing directly behind them who wouldn't talk. We're only hearing about it now, but they've been creating a new personal guard industry since the united Healthcare ceo got it.
They were using sci-fi as their inspiration and the hype for selling their stuff and never bothered to also check the downsides portrayed in the same literature. It's a classic gonk move to be expected from corpo scum.
Sci-Fi Author: In my book I invented the Torment Nexus as a cautionary tale
Tech Company: At long last, we have created the Torment Nexus from classic sci-fi novel Don't Create The Torment Nexus
Armed bodyguards for billionaires are now pariahs. If you know one, isolate them, tell everyone who they are, and the boot they lick. More hated than the glassholes.
How "brilliant" do you have to be to think this is a better alternative than to stop doing things that make you think people are going to Luigi you?
TIL that someone tried to firebomb Sam Altman. Hero! ✊
BTW, such reactions are partly self-inflicted:
As the fight over AI data centers heats up, some polls have shown that AI is less popular with Americans than Immigration and Customs Enforcement. People fear that AI will result in mass layoffs, a further consolidation of wealth and power, or even a catastrophic apocalypse — outcomes that many leaders in the AI industry have issued warnings about.
In an effort to make AI more appealing, one should add.
