Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

Sergio Furnari said he thought the lifesize sculpture – which no one commissioned – would raise ‘millions’ of dollars

To add injury to insult, Furnari recently broke his foot working on the statue, after tripping over a roll of tape in his studio.

“Is it cursed? Maybe. I don’t know,” he told the Guardian.

There should be a statue of Ron DeSantis killing old people with an axe

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

There's no way some idiot that puts a cool mil into the right political spectrum wouldn't but that. He just didn't get enough coverage yet. Kinda sad we're helping, but i'm aparently doing that too. :(

[–] lizzzy@feddit.uk 1 points 2 hours ago

Needs a sign. Empathy would have gone a long way.

Summary: Artist tried to cash in on a person's death only to find that the hateful people that were supposed to like the hateful person dont actually care about him one way or the other ... and everyone with sense actually hates the guy.

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

More: Apprently he will put it on times square in 10th of September to raise awareness. Make sure to prepare your popcorns.

[–] generic_computers@lemmy.zip 2 points 58 minutes ago

Awareness of what? I'm already aware that Charlie Kirk is dead.

[–] Don_alForno@feddit.org 9 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Well, if he adds the bullet hole to the throat he may have better luck.

[–] MrMcGasion@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Would inserting a tube and turning it into a fountain be in bad taste?

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Going by the man himself's beliefs, no. “I can’t stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new-age term that…does a lot of damage.”

[–] Mister_Hangman@lemmy.world 1 points 44 minutes ago

There you go folks. Kirk endorses the fountain idea. Let’s let the red kool aid flow so folks suffering from a thirst can find respite in the Kirk Fountain.

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Not a single one of the bots that admired him wants his statue.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 5 points 6 hours ago

Michelangelo at least waited until he was commissioned to do something. I translated an old Latin piece of conversation scroll between Michelangelo and the pope, it said..."Show me the money, bitch!".

Yes, we can read the body text.

[–] cyclonedusk@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

it's extremely shoddily made due to blatant inaccuracies.

obviously this statue needs a LOT more work to have any worthwhile representation of charlie kirk.

first of all, it's missing the very important actively gushing neck hole.

second of all, he looks lucid and composed instead of convulsing due to sudden loss of oxygenated blood pressure in his brain.

i don't think anyone will buy it until these glaring issues are amended.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Just grab a drill and you can fix the one issue.

[–] stumu415@lemmy.zip 12 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

How come this git is still in the news? He was not someone of any importance, not domestically and definitely not internationally.

[–] lemmylump@lemmy.world 7 points 6 hours ago

All that guy was ever right about is that bullets are a pain in the neck.

[–] GoatSynagogue@lemmy.world 26 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (3 children)

he spent $100,000 on steel, resin and labor

So the real cost was probably a few grand in materials, at most, and he’s no doubt saying his time is worth $1000/hour or more.

It was a grift all along, especially wanting to display it in a place that just elected a “democratic socialist” mayor, one of the biggest Democrat strongholds.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 5 points 14 hours ago

Definitely, no way it's 100k usd of work. Looking around the going rate for human sized metal statues is 15-50k in the US.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 8 points 15 hours ago

This one I would pay mountains of money for just because I crack up every time I see it and it never gets old

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 hours ago

This looks like it was made by Man★Gataro

[–] newton@feddit.online 6 points 12 hours ago

Who's Charly Kirk ? /s

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 32 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (2 children)

Shoulda made it a fountain, woulda sold in a hot minute.

Edit oh HELL NO "far right activist"?? What's the matter, did shit flinging troglodyte have too many syllables ?

[–] flop_leash_973@lemmy.world 13 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (2 children)

Fountain where the water comes out of the neck?

[–] manuremy@sopuli.xyz 7 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

No no, take it further. Add an urinal, ground level so the ladies can use it too. Then add in a fountain motor and the neck hole.. Kinda like a jukebox, instead of a coin you add in piss and instead of music you get a fountain!

// Heck, add a drinks stand next to it, sodas and slurpees.. And a T-shirt stand selling shirts saying stuff like "I pissed in the Charlie Kirk piss fountain at the Charlie Kirk Piss Fountain Park!"

Hey guys, wanna buy my Hitler statue? I've spent $100k on it and I'm so proud of it.

[–] datavoid@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago

I don't agree with what he did in the europe, but I want to support his family!

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 10 points 15 hours ago

This artist sucks, he didn't get Charlie Kirk's face nearly small enough on that stupid head of his.

[–] El_Scapacabra@lemmy.zip 31 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Create a problem in the stupidest way possible. Blame everyone but yourself.

The MAGA playbook.

Didn't think his scam through. He needed MAGA to front him the money for making it, then not have it sell. No one who 'venerates' Kirk would actually put their own money on the line for him.

[–] FE80@lemmy.world 31 points 21 hours ago (6 children)

A New York sculptor has been left furious after spending $100,000 of his own money to build a lifesize statue of Charlie Kirk, only to find that no one wants to buy it.

What sculptor has 100k of their own money?

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 2 points 2 hours ago

I hope he took out loans and his life is ruined.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 9 points 16 hours ago

He's a New York sculptor, which means it was $100,000 of his parents' money.

By looking at the statue one can tell he is a mediocre artist so I assume he tried to grift instead of shining with his artistic skills.

Wow the more I read the article the more shocked I am at how delusional this guy is. His chain of logic as to why he built the statue and what he expected from it are completely insane. He clearly expected right wing people to rain money on him for this statue. %100 grift. He may also be interested in having sex with Erica.

Charlie Kirk was just a baloon and this guy found that out quite painfully. The icing on the cake? He is angry that people are cheap lol:

“Things financially are a total, absolute nightmare. It’s like wow. People are cheap, man. You know, people talk, talk – I know lots of people out there, and everybody’s so cheap. You know, like, it’s disgusting how cheap they are.”

[–] Ariselas@piefed.ca 17 points 20 hours ago

Maybe he'll get more interest if he drills a hole in it's neck and turns it into a fountain.

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 289 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My favorite comment on this statue, Charlie Kirk has become what he hates most, a person of color.

Or people don't like nazis, it's a mystery!
