And then Americans have the nerve to get pissy with Canada when their smoke gets over here. No offers to help, no well wishes. Just complaints. Typical.

[–] FE80@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

That's a lot of fires.

[–] BigDiction@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Thank you Washington for avenging Michigan.

[–] Limonene@lemmy.world 19 points 9 hours ago

The people emitting the carbon dioxide should pay for it, since climate change is responsible for much of the fire.

(This statement is not in disagreement with the post. See list.)

Obviously an illegal Canadian wildfire that crossed the border. ICE will shoot it any minute now.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

With what?
Fire, water or ice?

[–] Theoriginalthon@lemmy.world 9 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Come on everyone knows you fight fire with fire

[–] ParadoxSeahorse@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

In an alternate reality, they are just hoards of ice monsters

[–] ratofkryll@sh.itjust.works 4 points 7 hours ago

I live in that circle, north of the border. :(

[–] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 52 points 13 hours ago

As a WA state resident, believe me... We are paying for it. And we ain't getting our money back.

[–] spacehulk@lemmy.zip 24 points 13 hours ago

I see a LOT of smoke that was made in America in this image. USA USA USA

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 67 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

Space. Who knew the land actually had lines like that? Guess that's why the states and provinces are shaped the way they are though.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 8 points 9 hours ago

I can confirm. I am from space.

[–] grte@lemmy.ca 16 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Those Nazcas were a lot more wide ranging than I thought.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago

A few of them were bad at following the plans for their part of the drawing and got lost.

[–] starik@lemmy.today 0 points 11 hours ago (4 children)

The shapes of states are arbitrary. That is an actual photo from space, but the white lines are added to the image after the fact.

That's ridiculous, are you trying to tell me that they draw those lines on every photo instead of marking the ground once? Typical government waste! Also, this community is for serious posting and commenting only.

[–] starik@lemmy.today 4 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

It’s true. You can tell because the white lines are in front of the clouds.

[–] prettybunnys@piefed.social 16 points 11 hours ago

That’s just because the clouds are lower to the ground.

You can fly over clouds, so the lines needed to be drawn higher than the clouds so pilots can find their way.

It’s also why the smoke isn’t covering the line, since the fire is on the ground and the smoke is rising it hasn’t made it as high as the line yet.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

And this is taken from a low (as in southerly) angle, making Washington look flatter or squished. That or the aspect ratio was altered.

[–] starik@lemmy.today 2 points 7 hours ago

It’s definitely from the south, and low earth orbit is really low. It’s like putting your eye right up to a baseball, almost touching it.

See where the ISS orbits, to scale, here:

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 3 points 11 hours ago

There aren't really lines, they did that with wires

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 8 points 13 hours ago

near earth orbit

I read that in the tone of Andy Samburg's character in Threw It on the Ground when he says, "My dad's not a phone! Duh!"

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 6 points 10 hours ago

Man GOES is bad ass

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago

Since global climate change is a liberal hoax, maybe liberal Americans should foot the bill...

Or some such bullshit according to Trump and conservative Americans

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 9 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Blows my mind that Trump was raising a stink over the smoke when it was pouring into NYC and New England.

All things considered, I'd expect him to fan the flames much, much more literally.

[–] HertzDentalBar@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 12 minutes ago

It's a forest so he will demand the flames be raked.
