Friend and I started another run when the DLC dropped.Went occultist and the game rnged me like 5 drops with hellhound levels...so against my will I'm running around with a 15 skill on Hellhound. Dude just obliterates trash haha.

Has anyone played this co-op? How is it? I saw that only one player can see the text/interaction screens at a time... Is that pretty annoying?

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 40 minutes ago* (last edited 40 minutes ago)

I have played through the game in co-op and solo many times. It is GREAT co-op. The limitation, more of a feature really (i'll explain) you're referring to is that only one person in the group can interact with the same NPC at once if it is quest related (sellers and such do not have this limitation). What this also entails is that only one person in the group needs to accept or return a quest for the whole group. You don't all need to portal back to the NPC to turn in a quest, just one person can so it while other people go turn in different things, sell items, etc. It is a convenient time saver in my experience, but I can see this perhaps being annoying on your first time playing through the game when you want to see and hear all the dialog/more.

Haven't played it in coop, but it is an ARPG, meaning text/interactions are neither common nor needed (although i always enjoyed the codex entries one can collect)

Ah, thanks. I thought it was some place in a game. My mistake!

[–] toxicbubble@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

tbf i thought it said "grim dark" which is commonly used for Warhammer

[–] innermachine@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Here I thought it was POE lol

[–] cenariodantesco@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

I've been playing this game again since the newest DLC released and I've been having a blast. Definitely my favorite in the genre.

[–] forgetfulmeat@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Oh thank you for reminding me. Glad to hear it's doing well

[–] Jubei_K_08@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Fine I'll make another 5 builds if it'll make you happy!

[–] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 2 points 1 day ago

LoL it wont stop a those 5 builds, i can tell you as much haha

[–] Archimedes@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Couch Diablo!

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Berserker+occultist felt kind of squishy to start off but once you get some regen and bleed going I'm having a lot of fun.

[–] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Occultist has always been my favorite secondary class - there's something for everyone in there ;-)

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 3 points 23 hours ago

I did pox build as my first playthrough and it was so satisfying to watch stuff just melt. I'm having a ton of fun with all the movement skills + evade as a werewolf. Stack bleed jump around and throw out a pox on large packs.

I spent countless hours on D2 and Grim Dawn had been the only game since to have that same feel for me.

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Plays like an old school ARPG. Love it. I think they added WASD movement after the devs very publicly stated WASD movement will never be added into the game.

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 day ago

Aww...the classic. The real argp. Now with its last big update+dlc.

[–] greybeard@feddit.online 11 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I hope Titan Quest II can recover. I never cared for the aesthetic of Grim Dawn, but Titan Quest I loved.

[–] ampersandrew@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Recover? It sold well, and it's not v1.0 yet.

[–] greybeard@feddit.online 1 points 19 hours ago

Looking at the reviews, it seems to be in a pretty rocky place. It may be because it is in EA, but it sounds like they are struggling with the fundamentals, and with the original release timeframe being... right about now, it doesn't bode well.

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is where I'm at. I love grim dawn, but Titan Quest was my jam as a kid. Wish 2 was looking like my hopes for it

[–] The_dev0@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I'm absolutely loving TQ2, it's just more of the game you love with modern polish.

[–] actionjbone@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

What do you mean by recover? Has something gone wrong with development?

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Same here! They really turned up the difficulty, so new users beware (or delight I guess if you are into that).

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah veteran has been a challenge to say the least. I've had to use movement skills a lot more than I am used to. Not sure how werewolf form works but even with a sword and board i was getting nuked occasionally with some unique spawns.

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 hour ago

Yeah, I've been forced to use the evade skill to avoid the slow highly telegraphed attacks from some enemies that can knock me down below half health. Werewolf doesn't add any stats by default, so it mostly handles it by a healthy amount of attack damage converted to health. That works well most of the time, but as it is still a melee class the extra bite of ground effects (think aether, poison, or fire on the ground) since the update are now rarely things you can sit still in for more than a moment. Those were always something to avoid, but they seem a bit tweaked now. I definitely feel like I am kiting more bosses than I normally would be.

[–] ampersandrew@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

It took a friend and I a few dozen hours to hit a difficulty spike. Before that, it was easy enough that we had to turn the difficulty up a notch.

[–] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 4 points 1 day ago

I realized that quickly. I only play hardcore in ARPGs, and the character show in in the screenshot is already populating my graveyard, something that hasn't happened to me that quick in a long time (most of my chars die somewhere in the transition from veteran to ultimate)

[–] roundabout@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

It’s a fun game! I played it for around 10 hours on steam deck. It’s a bit difficult to get the controls right but it’s a blast when it works

[–] Pattylay@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Played thru this a million years ago and saw it on the front page of steam the other day. Def guna check it out again

[–] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 2 points 1 day ago

I've got thousands of hours in this one! It's my all time favorite ARPG. The only thing that even gets close to this is Last Epoch, but that's a completely different feeling to play.

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Never played it but screenshot makes me think of Diablo II. I miss that game. I think it was the first game that made me feel like my trackball was the superior choice (to a mouse).

Game requires spyware (Windows) to play on a computer, but somewhat ironically, I have an Xbox, so I could play it there. (Also have a PS3 and a Switch.) Gameplay trailer on their website makes it look more like an action game than an RPG though. Either way it looks like a bit of fun.

[–] jws_shadotak@sh.itjust.works 2 points 18 hours ago

I play Diablo II Resurrected on a regular basis. I'm on Fedora.

Installation procedure was pretty simple.

Running Lutris, use the installation instructions for the BattleNet launcher.

Once you get that set up, log in like normal and install D2R through the launcher. Once installed, you can create a shortcut to launch D2R by duplicating battlenet and changing the exe to the newly installed D2R and add launch options to log in straight to your account without the launcher.

[–] Botzo@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

FWIW, I've only ever played grim dawn on Linux via proton.

[–] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 7 points 1 day ago

Nowadays there's Diablo 2 Resurrected which runs fine under Linux using Proton.

Also, there is a long running community mod (since 2016) for Grim Dawn called Reign of Terror which tries to replicate the D2 feeling in Grim Dawn - just be aware that although it already has been updated to work with the new expansion, there might currently be some unexpected issues around.

[–] fluckx@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Which game requires Windows to run? I run diablo 2 ( resurrected) on Linux.

I've run it through battle.net ( over steam ) and you can buy I directly through steam as well. You'd need to link your steam account to your battlenet, but it works fine.

Unless you mean grim dawn. I haven't tried that one on Linux, but protondb claims it's platinum.

Going to be using the new class? What are you going to pair with it?

[–] DeLancre@piefed.social 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

New class? What's that?

Gonna create another character to level up nothing but necromancer&arcanist with spending all points to calidor's tempest skill.

Probably going either Berserker/Nightblade for those piercing/bleeding/cold synergies or Berserker/Necromancer for the 2h/cold/piercing style. I'm not completely sure for now haha

Not gonna go for a chaos build for a first char tho - i am such a masochist that i deleted every single thing in my stash when FoA came out lol

[–] cypherix93@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I did Berserker/Nightblade cold bleed and got to level 40, beat big bad Log, was a total blast.

Now any other class I play I miss having Leap as a skill - it's such a good movement skill.

I am doing a revisit, and not sure what happened but after an update the save vanished on the Steamdeck. Uninstall and reinstall did not fix it. Then the game stopped working altogether. Then after a third software update everything is back and running.

[–] DeLancre@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

Yeah, recent update completely borked game on both linux and windows. Devs released a patch soon after that added "comparability mode for linux peasants", but I saw suggestion for windows users to also use it, cause it solves same issue.
