Why does anyone think there are still chances left?

edit: to clarify, I mean there are no more chances to "halt the erosion of US democracy"--it done eroded already. We're starting over now. The only thing we don't know yet is whether the coming elections will be free and fair. If they are, we can start rebuilding with a new movement to replace the old failed parties. If not, other steps will wind up being taken, one way or another.

Honestly this reply is a solid way to put it, there's a lot that can't be said until it's time to talk about it. It does come down to November and if we have elections that are fair it should be a sweep. We're seeing already in smaller red districts huge flips, so if its anything but a totally blow out something was going on. My guess is Dems stopped saying what they're going to do so a plan can't be made against it, everyone just locked in held their ground and shut up. Couple more months, america in the balance, somethings gonna happen either way. The most important midterms I've ever seen personally.

Fully believe Trump will send ice and militias out to attack polling stations or something like this.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I also think this. But I also thought the No Kings protesters were going to be masss murdered and the world cup teams were going to end up in detention camps, so hopefully things won't be as bad as I think this time either

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

What if we just gave the Argentinian team to ICE.

You know you paused just now and considered it for a second.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

But I also thought the No Kings protesters were going to be masss murdered

Well, given the tools the cops are given, there is still time, I suppose.

Voters do. Democrats don't. This is a voter issue at this point and framing it like a political party is gonna come save you is why people are apathetic.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

the democratic party will actively try to eff us over like they always do. We have to hold them accountable for their actions or we may as well just let AIPAC openly run the party.

I admire your optimism.

worthless fucking article

democrats are the FUCKING PROBLEM

citizens have to fix this

[–] Major_Tsiom@fedia.io 36 points 2 days ago (2 children)

No. The last chance was 2024. They lost. That was the last fair election. There is no way that the fascists have come this far and gained total control only to give it up because of an election.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There's one way to defeat them and everyone knows what it is

Lets give the DNC football to Lucy. This is for the game, folks. It's all up to Charlie Browns kick.

[–] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 38 points 2 days ago (14 children)

Democrats will likely win but then they'll remember who holds their purse and the billionaire Epstein-class will tighten their grip on us plebs even more.

What exactly have the Democrats done to inspire any confidence?

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Not be nazis. The bar is tragically low

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You may be forgetting that Biden sponsored the start of the genocide. Tens of thousand were murdered through his support. Its painful to hear and I'd love to just blame it on the republicans, but aipac utterly owns both parties and pretending that isnt so just keeps us trapped in this forever.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I'm not defending the democrats. I'm just saying the reason they have support is they're perceived as not as bad as the nazis and it's really fucking tragic that America is at that point where all a party has to do to get support is be perceived as the only viable alternative to literal nazis.

[–] thethrilloftime69@feddit.online 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Yeah but they've consistently supported Nazis abroad and done pretty much nothing to curb fascism at home. I guess they're not technically Nazis but that's like Nazi adjacent.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Like I said, it's a tragically low bar. They're seen as the only feasible alternative to the actual nazis

[–] FoxtrotDeltaTango@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (15 children)

Nothing at all, but the progressives, the Democratic socialists, and the greens and everyone else who is fighting tooth and nail in the trenches against the far right extremists and chuds are giving it their all

Democrats are complicit. They have no motivation for the bulk of the citizenry to win.

[–] oozynozh@sh.itjust.works 29 points 2 days ago (12 children)

establishment Dems, sure. but there are insurgent leftists winning national primaries all over the country.

Is that the flag of israel with a rainbow on both sides ? a muzzled teddy bear in China ? what is the cheeto ?

[–] djsiete@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Basically this is a typical chudlib. They think they are actually on the right side of history, because they support "democracies" like Israel, and the only worthy cause they stand up for is the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. But when it comes to Palestinans, they're quiet.

They claim to hate dictators and dictatorships, and believe that there is absolutely nothing wrong or immoral with NATO and the western world hegemony. That's why they have a blinding hatred for China, and think it's very brave of them to be anti China.

They think is just an oopsie by yanks, that it's as easy as voting to get rid of him.

Basically a stupid chud that hasn't spent a minute thinking critically about anything.

Haven't you ever seen a wojak before? Lol

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 2 points 1 day ago

Alright ! I don't know what wojak is, will look up. sounds like a canadian wild beast heheh

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

"a landslide defeat for President Donald Trump in November’s midterm elections is exactly what is required if the country is to start reversing his deliberate and rapid erosion of its democracy"

that... seems unlikely to me. I mean, he's not popular, but his approval ratings aren't significantly worse than the last time he was president.

[–] Archimedes@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 hours ago

He'll get a landslide victory, mark my words.
