Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The man is as moronic as he is sadistic. He's also crippled by insecurity and that makes him very dangerous indeed.

[–] dregan@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Because he's a dumbass?

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 10 points 4 hours ago

The fact that they had faith in him in the first place, tells you everything you need to know.

[–] toast@retrolemmy.com 7 points 4 hours ago

[ just points at all of him ]

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 10 points 4 hours ago

Because he's an utterly unqualified talk show host.

But these dumbfucks keep voting for TV personalities, so I'm not sure what they're expecting.

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 102 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Better question is why they ever had any faith in an unqualified alcoholic TV propagandist to head up the world’s largest military.

[–] NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip 16 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Oh dont stop there.

His book indicates he doesn't understand history.

He was forced to step down from two veterans non profits, with accusations of financial mismanagement.

Racism. It’s always what it boils down to

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 22 points 7 hours ago

Woaaaaah, hey. Let's not get overly reductionist. He's also LGBTQ-phobic, xenophobic...

[–] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 49 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Because he's a fucking idiot.

Drunken fucking idiot

Why are Republicans criticising Hegseth?

Because they need a fall-guy for Iran. It's ironic because the things directly under Hegseth's control appear to have largely functioned as intended. That is the strikes on Iran have been carried out with minimal US losses. Don't @ me about war crimes like the Minab school, Republicans DGAF.

The problem with the Iran war is the decision to start it and the terms upon which it will end. We should launch an investigation into who's responsible for that.

[–] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 17 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

This is the real answer. Republicans don't give a shit that he's a drunken asshole, or that he's a moron doing stupid stuff like removing vaccine requirements among the soldiers, or that he's destroying military leadership. They care that they might lose elections and need to blame a non-elected person.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 4 points 5 hours ago

Yeah, especially as a lot of the criticism of the war rightly falls to the civilian leadership making idiotic decisions on how to fight the war.

[–] JiveTurkey@lemmy.world 17 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Probably has nothing to do with him being a total moron.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago

That's an essential qualification in those circles.

[–] jontree255@lemmy.world 19 points 8 hours ago

If his strategy of “use all the bombs we have” was working they’d still have faith in him. As it stands now it might cost them the next election and all their donor money.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 8 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

because they are rather slow. wait till they wake up to whats happened to literally every facet of the federal government.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

You have to have a brain to wake up.

[–] kyub@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 7 hours ago

Well, fascism doesn't require skilled people. It just requires loyalists. You can see that in many areas.

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 10 points 7 hours ago

I'd call him an empty suit but he's so full of shit that'd be a lie.

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

He's smugly incompetent

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

Never had any to begin with

[–] hedders@fedia.io 1 points 7 hours ago

Is it because he's an irredeemable See You Next Tuesday?
