I would suggest that if your boyfriend/girlfriend is cheating on you in a video game, maybe you should look inward and find out why....

What a braindead article to share here

"Send him to the swamps"

[–] LostWanderer@fedia.io 9 points 1 hour ago

Honestly supporting a shitty company like Rockstar and others like them would be a more valid reason to break it off. I personally couldn't see engaging with shallow "relationship" mechanics in a video game to be cheating. If it is leading to a partner neglecting their real life relationship and their responsibilities that is a serious concern to put one's foot down about.

Not going to lie, this feels like a fake outrage campaign to drum up for marketing.

And since this article is here and I'm commenting on it, I guess its kind of working.

[–] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 17 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (2 children)

Feels?

I'm certain it is.

No spouse would go over the marketing of a game and get stuck on "in-depth relationship mechanics" enough to bar their partner from playing it.

The game isn't even out yet. How the fuck would they even know?

If it was some porn game sure, but it is GTA. Even parents didn't care there were strip clubs in it.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 minutes ago

IDK man I've met some cripplingly insecure people out there

get stuck on “in-depth relationship mechanics” enough to

What about the profoundly mentally ill, who are projecting their own guilt from playing the Sims

[–] Hond@piefed.social 13 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Was about to make a similar comment. But i dont even see Rockstar behind it necessarily ( i have to google this word everytime, fml). Media outlets themselves have enough reason to drum up a bit of bullshit for the clicks. Sweet gamer outrage for some ad revenue.

I'm impartial towards GTA6 itself. Rockstar and Take2 suck. Fuck em. But GTA6 as a product is still kinda cool i guess(Price, DLCs, Netflix Trailer aside). But i know i'm going to be so sick of it when it releases. There will so much media coverage because its GTA. Like the queen died levels of media flooding.

I'm really curious though if we get a pre-release PC leak. lmao

I just find it hilarious... No-one said shit about the (admittedly rather lame) relationship mechanic in Cyberpunk2077, not sure why this is such a huge fucking deal...

Maybe it's not limited to the same 3 sex-acts every time? ;-) (Which makes it more like marriage than a relationship. ;-) )

[–] calliope@retrolemmy.com 5 points 1 hour ago

I think it’s because it’s tied to GTA.

I swear someone should study the delusions people put themselves under when a new GTA game comes out.

The media loves these games because they can generate content about the “controversies.” Organizations and stupid politicians love to point to it as a problem.

And, possibly an unpopular opinion, a lot of people tend to convince themselves the games are better than they are in reality.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe your marriage not mine though.

We do some seriously weird shit every night.

[–] ShredderFeeder@shredderfood.net 2 points 3 hours ago

And that's as it should be. ;-)

You break up with your boy friend playing because you think hes cheating on you.

I break up with my boyfriend for playing because its supporting rockstar and their shitty practices

Over on TikTok

Imma go ahead and stop you right there

[–] Bane_Killgrind@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 57 minutes ago

The source of beige parenting, and the Benadryl challenge?

[–] ShredderFeeder@shredderfood.net 8 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah yeah, "consider the source" but I can totally see the insecurity coming out in force over this...

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 16 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

This honestly feels like a lame attempt at stirring up gamer gate style controversies and get people pitted against each other over videogames in that way again.

There's people playing Sims and Inzoi with fully fledged developed relationship style game play and that's been going for decades. No one actually cares about this. It's interesting to see the article though so don't take this as a negative on you posting it!

[–] ShredderFeeder@shredderfood.net 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

My guess is, as someone else pointed out, this is Rockstar trying to drum up interest... And it worked...people are talking about it. I've never owned a GTA game in my life and I'm considering this one just to figure out what the hubbub is about...

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 hours ago

The trailer did look really good. I've never played GTA myself, but this one is tempting to me as well haha

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 17 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Brb guess I gotta go break it to my wife that I have a second family in Stardew Valley.

[–] Sonotsugipaa@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 hour ago

Damnit, I recently started playing Palworld, guys what do I do, I'm so fucked please help me

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 hours ago

This is exactly where my thoughts went - there's SO MANY games that already have relationship dynamics built into them that it's wild to see people reacting like this.

[–] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 25 points 4 hours ago (4 children)

"In absolutely no human way is my fiancé playing GTA 6," said one TikToker. "You literally have to maintain a relationship with a girl [in] the video game and text her, and she'll get mad if you don't text her back. You have to take her on dates and you can have [sex] with her. [...] Don't let your boyfriend or fiancé or husband play GTA 6.". Other TikTok creators outright labeled playing the game as cheating.

Holy insecurity Batman. If your partner thinks your character being in a relationship in a video game is cheating, then that sounds like their problem.

Narrative should be flipped. Those people playing the games should be reconsidering their relationship because of how insecure their partner is.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 3 points 1 hour ago

My wife helped me to romance Abigail in Stardew Valley.

[–] CrypticCoffee@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 hour ago

Sounds like Rockstar paid tiktokers to push hype lines.

Lonely men who are likely the demographic being offered less loneliness when in reality. It's just a dumb game with hookers that was once about cars.

[–] GenderNeutralBro@lemmy.sdf.org 10 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Those people playing the games should be reconsidering their relationship because of how insecure their partner is.

Seriously. I mean, maybe talk things out before going nuclear, but don't accept such controlling behavior as okay. A little therapy can go a long way.

Sure, there are some people who have unhealthy relationships with video games (and fiction in general), and that shouldn't automatically get a pass. I've seen some crazy shit in the Baldur's Gate 3 community. But for the vast majority it's just a game. I mean, I'm not going to fuck a bear, a half-devil, or a squid in real life. I promise.

[–] ReCursing@feddit.uk 5 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, I’m not going to fuck [...] a squid in real life. I promise.

Maybe don't look up The Dream Of The Fisherman's Wife by Hokusai (yes the guy who did the really famous Great Wave) in case it awakens something in you (okay that's octopi not squid, but...)

[–] SPRUNTnsfw@fedinsfw.app 3 points 3 hours ago

NGL, the half-devil is worth it for the memories, but definitely not long-term.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 9 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

You literally have to maintain a relationship with a girl [in] the video game and text her, and she’ll get mad if you don’t text her back.

I guess Rockstar took a lesson from Starfield and is trying to make every aspect of the game as tedious as possible?

[–] Hond@piefed.social 7 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Couuuusssiin!

Wanna go bowling?

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 4 points 3 hours ago

Hell yeah I do Roman!

[–] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I guess if you want to think of it that way? You had to take care of your horse in RDR2 as well but it never felt tedious like Starfield, it felt like immersion.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 hours ago

Yeah, there's good ways to do it.

Personally, I don´t like GTA after Vice City (San Andreas on) exactly because it gets bogged down in simulating the aspects of life I'd either rather do in in real life or avoid entirely. A high maintenance GF falls into the latter category.

[–] marighost@piefed.social 11 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Breaking up with your SO for playing GTA6 because romance in video games is cheating:
😴

Breaking up with your SO because Rockstar/T2 are union busters and GTA6 shouldn't be purchased: 😎

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 hour ago

if union busting is cheating, piracy isn't stealing

[–] kibblebits@quokk.au 8 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

While I’m sure GTA6 will be an amazing video game, I kinda DONT want to experience a Florida where it’s somehow even worse than actual Florida. The USA is not a good place to be… even in a game.

[–] sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

For those of us who fortunately weren't born in a third world country, now is our chance to experience it in a simulator.

[–] eager_eagle@lemmy.world 2 points 35 minutes ago

as someone born in one, I think Florida might be worse.

[–] ShredderFeeder@shredderfood.net 1 points 3 hours ago

Yeah, little too much non-fiction here...

[–] eager_eagle@lemmy.world 7 points 3 hours ago

If you have an SO like that, save yourself the drama and break up now.

[–] Nonprophet@lemmy.world 6 points 3 hours ago

My wife isn't going to 'let' me play... she is going to play WITH me!!!
