An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

I shouldn't go on Amazon in the middle of the night. But at least I have all my childhood favorites

The Cornetto series is the best!

[–] DillDough@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago

I know it's a different writer/director and there's no Cornetto joke but that collection needs Paul.

Easily the best movies there for sure, and there's some good stuff in the rest but these are just a class of their own.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

What movie did they pack in with Pacific Rim?

wow they put pacific rim on the disc twice so you can watch it twice as many times, how considerate

jk actually, I didn't really mind the second movie, but also didn't really get the hype for the first movie. it's hollywood mecha stuff which is rarer, but still not groundbreaking imo

What I liked in the first one is how tight everything is. The story is simple but effective, good pacing, the visuals are great, effects are solid, the sound design is top class. It's just a neat little effective bundle, just like 2012 Dredd or the first John Wick. Sometimes all you need is a simple solid digestable package. I wish we had more movies like this.

Hard agree, I think we're going to see a breaking point soon where studios get tired of constantly trying to release the next big thing and hopefully get back to making stories that tell just enough

Wait, there are SIX Shrek movies?!

[–] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Excellent selections! What are the two 10-film collections?

[–] DeadPixel@lemmy.zip 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What’s in the 80s collection?

[–] mittyta@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

What is Shrek SIX movies collection? Are Puss in boots or short films added?

You haven't seen Shrek 17: Swamp Stomp?

I'm curious too.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrek_(franchise)

That lists 4 movies and more spin offs.

Happy birthday dude! Excellent comfort food films

Incidentally my local international theater movie conglomerate started offering an unlimited screenings subscription and if you go to 2 a month it's priced right. Fuuuuuck.

Happy birthday, Fenrir!

That Batman collection the Batman / Returns / Forever / & Robin sequence? Dang. Treasure the first one, watch Returns once, and throw the other two away unwatched. Some people might not believe that a film with many scenes of Uma Thurman dancing around in corset and tights could be so bad that it's not worth your time at all, but those people are fools. I am one of them; saw it at the cinema when I was a kid.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I have a soft spot for Bat-Kilmer

[–] ironpangolin29@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 days ago

Happy birthday man. I'm sure there are a couple crankable moments in those films. Crank dat, all on the floor crank dat til you get soree, ohhwoahoahh.

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Happy Birthday! And enjoy!

You are more than worth it!

[–] lemmygarden@lemmy.today 4 points 3 days ago

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago
