As frustrating as it is to see, and despite my overwhelming desire to scream "duh" and " I told you so"; The only path out of this division is to try to be gracious and welcoming when someone wants to come back to reason. So please don't fight the folks that are trying to agree with you in a way that saves them their wounded pride. Go watch Behind the Curve to see how these echo chambers make it socially toxic to change your mind, which means people get "trapped" by the fear of judgement, so they just stay in the cult.

That is a good documentary.
Yet somewhere along the way, we turned roads into a political argument. We argue over “DEI bike lanes.” We argue over “equity.” We argue over ideology.
We didn't, you did. This article goes on to say that the issue is one of terminology but if that is so, then why can't Republicans see that? I really do not think this is solely a terminology thing, this is Republicans not caring until it affects them, yet again.
I'm tired, boss.
Republicans are mentally toddlers who think if someone else gets something, even an intangible concept, there's less of that thing to go around. So if someone else is allowed to do literally anything that the toddler doesn't do themselves, CLEARLY that means something is being taken away from them.
If a bike lane goes in and the toddler doesn't like riding a bike, then that HAS to mean something is being taken from them.
When a local project was proposed to add a bike lane on one side of the road to allow safe passage of bikes, republicunts threw a goddamn tantrum, because we CAN'T take up part of the parking lots that nobody ever parks in because it's far away from storefronts, and we CAN'T take away that thin strip of green-brown that dies every year because it's right against the road, and it's money the city shouldn't be spending.
A little over a year later and they're halfway through expanding a new lane on each side of the road, pushing into parking lots, taking away the green and trees from both sides of the road, shutting down one direction for months at a time, and costing about 15x more than the single lane expansion and blocking off would have.
Adding another lane has so far caused several accidents as people realize they need a different lane and try to force their way into a spot to turn, or they get stuck in the turn lane and try to launch their car ahead of the normal flowing traffic and sideswipe the next lane or t-bone a car trying to turn into the main road.
But hey, at least we don't have any of those WOKE DANGEROUS DEI BIKE LANES
The ol' "It didn't matter until it happened to me" scenario.
No empathy until it applies to them. Then suddenly on that one point they feel it.
The leopards have contracted obesity from all the faces
"We on the right cast things in hateful terms intended to somehow be racist about bike lanes, but really it's just different words for the same stuff."
Fuck you, idiot. I'm sorry you lost your dad, and your advocacy would be welcome, if you could pull your fucking head out for five fucking seconds. But really, get fucked.
Also belongs in leopards ate my face
Street safety and bike lanes are not a culture war.
Everything is a front of the culture war when culture war to divert from your actual bullshit is the goal...
