Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Man. If only we had someone in the government willing to investigate election fraud. You know, like literally offering to buy the vote of every eligible adult in the country.

It would be cheaper to give us free healthcare, improve the healthcare system, cover medications, and develop a UBI/social security for all.

But that might help blue states, so nah.

Btw, here's more billions to go blow up some middle eastern people.

To him, everything is solved with bribes. Bribes paid from an empty treasury.

[–] Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 12 points 15 hours ago

Bribes that he will never pay. It's Trump, after all.

They've given up assuming they can win out just racism so they've move onto straight promises of bribes. Of course, this is a group who never paid out the last promises of bribes so it's all lies. Too bad all too many voters will go back to fooled again.

PT Barnum was right.

Let’s do the basic math here: 270 million adults × $5,000 = $1.35 trillion. Where is this money coming from? He promised us $2,000 tariff checks and those never happened. Now he's blatantly trying to buy votes right before the midterms with taxpayer money we don't have. Even if this wasn't an empty promise, dropping $1.3T directly into the economy while inflation and gas prices are already high from the Middle East conflict would completely trash the dollar

President Donald Trump has promised a $5,000 payment to every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress in the November midterm elections, a proposal that could cost the federal government about $1.3 trillion.

Just to be clear, the $1.3 trillion won’t come from the payouts, as they obviously won’t actually happen. It’ll come from Congress being run by Republicans.

I think I found the loophole:

The president didn't reveal any other details, other than to add, "The only caveat I have is that the dividend that we're making must be spent in the ‌United States of America."

The payments (if they happen at all) will be issued in the form of a Trump Gift Card only redeemable at cooperating retailers. There will only be a few cooperating retailers, all of them controlled by Trump and his allies. It's just another money grab scheme.

It'll be Trump crypto...like they used to pay the UFC fighters on the WH lawn.

Itchy and Scratchy Money only in real life.

Simpsons already did it.

~~DOGE Dividend~~ ~~Tarrif Refund~~ $5000 checks will be sent soon.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 15 hours ago

Right after he picks up that bill in the Miami Cuban restaurant.

[–] CanIFishHere@lemmy.ca 8 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Completely illegal and no one can do anything.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 6 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

He will point out there is no legal way to do this on November 4th...Americans learned nothing from Peanuts.

[–] CanIFishHere@lemmy.ca 3 points 12 hours ago

Excellent analogy.
