Fuck every instance that uses cloudfare. Even mine.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Even 100% of the internet?

[–] restingOface@quokk.au 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Especially 100% of the Internet.

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What a silly question. The internet doesn’t weigh anything!

[–] restingOface@quokk.au 1 points 1 day ago

We all have our blind spots!

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

You ever type "Google" into Google?

[–] craigers@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

If it is then it's expensive, put it back

Oops, all the internet

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Wait, what’s wrong with cloudflare?

[–] Grostleton@lemmy.dbzer0.com 44 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You mean besides the obvious problem with allowing one company to operate as a gatekeeper for a significant portion of the internet?

[–] Kangae_Hishiryo@scribe.disroot.org 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Cloudflare is shit. They're a diabolic extractive, toxic and anti-user megacorpo, they sell our metadata and telemetry, they censor us and can arbitrarily impose arbitrary terms or actions on users, terminates TLS when the data gets to their server, thus the data is decrypted when traveling from Cloudflare's server to the requested host or direction, and when acting as a CDN or security layer, they're actually a MITM intercepting and deciphering all the HTTPS traffic, then arbitrarily inspecting it in opaque ways.

I don't even know why or how so many people choose to believe them, even lots of "privacy concerned" users and "privacy-friendly" tools like if Cloudflare were any privacy-friendly at all.

If you're supposedly privacy concerned and/or privacy-friendly, but keep using Cloudflare software and services, then you don't care about privacy at all.

Then what is the alternative to protect from ddos attacks?

The free version is very generous, I dont see a better/equal alternative to it.

Anubis from Techaro, for example. It offers protection against DDoS, against bots, against scrapers and against AI.

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 40 points 2 days ago

The cloudfare captcha is the reason you can't see any image from lemmy.zip.

[–] hirihit640@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago

Forces you to enable Javascript for websites that don't need it.

Looking through the list it sounds like folks are simultaneously upset that they have a non-interventionist policy and also that they do intervene in extreme cases.

Not an enviable position. I guess the answer is to strictly define and follow a policy setting when a situation escalates to the point they will intervene.

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 15 points 1 day ago

People think that if Cloudflare caved and started removing content, it'd be the right wing stuff and not the LGBT stuff, which seems preeetty naive.

[–] SourDragon@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Fuck

[insert joke about getting a virus or something]

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 47 points 2 days ago

Lemmy reminds me of 2001 because you get to watch the pictures load from the top down.

I was working in Albany at the time. I was reaaaally hoping it wasn't going to cause...well, the way the world ended up. The terrorists won beyond their wildest dreams.

I lived in Cleveland at the time. They evacuated Terminal Tower (the tallest skyscraper in Cleveland) in case the terrorists got so fucking far down the target list that they had to attack Cleveland.

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ironically, the terrorists lost on all their goals. Al-Qaeda wanted to scare the US out of the Middle East, instead they destroyed the US but made them more interventionist than any time since the beginning of the Cold War.

It's so weird that terrorism mainly strengthens authoritarian regimes rather than bringing them down. But of course there's no reason at all to suspect that's their real goal.

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wasn’t it the Spider-Man movie that came out around that time that edited the towers out and rereleased it?

[–] Starfuckers_inc@lemmy.4d2.org 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It was the Sam raimi Spiderman 1 film, if I remember correctly, it was a trailer that had to be retouched as the movie was released in 2002

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

they also had to go back and reshoot some, as filming in new york had concluded months earlier.

[–] nullify3112@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Someone repost the “use the boost to get through” meme please, I’m begging

If you're using Android, I can highly recommend using Summit for Lemmy.

God knows what dark magic those bastards harnessed but it works so well!

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

all the coolest homies "fail to grab this image"

[–] Hello_there@fedia.io 5 points 2 days ago

I open original instance and that works

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 3 points 1 day ago

ah yes, the deleted Lilo and Stitch scene.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 0 points 1 day ago

Funny enough I don't know if a picture has ever failed to load for me on Piefed, because if it did there wouldn't even be a space rendered for it.
