A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I think people hate AI because:
- it's trained on their stolen works
- they get no credit or payment when derivative works are made
- it let's business owners threaten to dismiss more workers (who need to work to live, since there are no safety nets in place)
- when workers DO get displaced by AI, the AI does a shoddier job (enshittifying products and processes)
- further enables and accelerates the concentration of capital to the absolutely-most-wealthy-people
I could go on and on.
You forgot the environment and the energy prices.
And hastening Dead Internet.
Though that one was already in the works. But Ai is certainly fast tracking it.
I can't afford a cybertruck; I still don't want one and think they are stupid as fuck. AI would be the same.
I also need to ask: Are you hurt? This is the kind of showerthought one would have after slipping and hitting their head in there.
People don't hate food, air, and water because they have access to it.

Loss leaders are a thing. The problem is the ai companies don't have the high margin alternative products to offset the losses.
Sounds like a problem for ai companies to solve unless your concern is their success or larger economical impacts. Not a real critique of the technology itself.

If we didn't have access to it, and didn't know anything about it, then we couldn't have a fair opinion on its quality. And, yes, by definition it would be seen as luxurious.
