Step One: Remove Zuckerberg.

I doubt that will actually solve the slop problem ... but how can we know unless we try it first?

[–] nullspace@lemmy.world 32 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Literally just stop showing me suggested posts and only show the people I follow and it would eliminate every problem.

Ah, but you see then you would see the limited amount of content coming from the right individuals, not have new stuff pushed at you all the time, and you risk being (shock and gasp) disengaged and look at some other app or some other content before your content creators create new stuff...

this post represents the collective shocked gasp that happened after the third comma

They created a monster, they thought they could control it but they can't, big tech can't control their own stuff.

I’ve been on Instagram before… I’m not sure the “slop” is entirely AI’s fault… That platform is so chock full of useless noise the filter might as well be “if (true) exit;”

Yeah, all the stupid "recommended" shit the algorithms added to my feeds eventually made it pretty easy to break the fb/insta scrolling habit. Fb was the place where I went to see what was up with people I knew and interact with them. Their comment setup is even worse than reddit for "anything you say is lost in the noise", so attempts at discussion were useless, though even if it was setup better, the quality of the comments themselves was like YouTube comment level.

Even more annoying, in addition to adding random shit to your feed, they also seemed to filter the list of friends they showed updates from to a small list that I have no idea how they even selected them. So I'd still end up missing life updates from some people if I didn't go to their profile.

I mean, I don't doubt it's way worse now with AI slop, but it was already shit before this.

they shit in their bed and now they can sleep in it.

deadname them. It's facebook.

[–] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 days ago

Well hopefully the quality degrades enough that people stop using Instagram

Easy, use AI to filter out the slop. /s

Benn Jordan’s approach to finding AI music was interesting. But apparently the compression that causes the artifacts in ai gen music aren’t as easy to determine in imagery.

The real way to find out how malicious these generative ai companies are is how hard they try to evade filters.
