Fox News anchor Jesse Watters warned that if Republicans cannot return to power in Texas, the GOP may never win the presidency again.

Watters said during his show Thursday night that Democrats’ sweeping wins in the midterm elections could be a death knell for Republicans’ chances of winning future presidential elections.

Democrats won all statewide elections on the ballot Tuesday, leaving Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) as the only remaining GOP statewide official in the Lone Star State.

“They seize Texas and are on pace for the biggest midterm landslide since Watergate,” Watters said. “Now, if Texas stays blue, a Republican will never sniff the White House ever again.”

Republican will never sniff the White House ever again

They only stink the place up anyway

[–] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 7 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

Oh, why do you think that, Jesse?

Scared that voters will see there's a better option?

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 12 points 6 hours ago

The republican party deserves to end after sicking Trump on the world. I hope they lose miserably in 2028 and the party dies, then the Democrat party splits

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 9 points 7 hours ago

Trying to see the downside.

Why they running around smelling things anyway?

Perverts.

[–] teslekova@lemmy.ml 25 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

It will be hard to keep Texas blue. Remember that the GOP had almost the worst possible candidate up against one of the best possible Dem candidates. Don't get complacent.

[–] David_Eight@lemmy.world 12 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Demacrats fliped seats for Governor, Senate, and Congress.

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 12 points 10 hours ago

Yes. In this environment where Trump has done so much to anger people.

This election cycle was delightful for us. In two years, it will likely be back to normal and much more difficult.

[–] GreenBeard@lemmy.ca 94 points 15 hours ago (4 children)

Threatening me with a good time will get you nowhere.

“They want it extinguished. They’re already talking about abolishing the Electoral College, impeaching the president, and executing > Elon Musk. Democrat governors now control a majority of states where most of the population lives,” Watters added.

No Democratic elected official has called for the execution of Musk.

Goddamn Jesse, you're being hysterical. This is why men don't belong in politics. Too emotional. /s

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 3 points 9 hours ago

This is Jesse Waters, he's an extremist imo

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 32 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I have called for it but fortunately for him I'm not an elected official.

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 4 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I was elected "most likely to remain a dweeb" in my yearbook. Does that count? If so an elected official absolutely has called for it

[–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 1 points 12 hours ago

I was voted "most likely to have a dead man switch" in high school and I'm not sure what all that implies about me but it's fun to tell people

It’s me, I’m calling for it.

[–] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 9 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

He should be strung up from the roof of a supercharge station and beaten with sticks

[–] Denfa@lemmy.world 10 points 10 hours ago

No one will want to sniff the white House ever again. They’re hiding his souled diapers in the basement.

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

It's crazy how quickly the Fox team was able to publicly identify where the Republicans went wrong this midterm cycle, and what the repercussions are likely to be, while left-leaning news outlets (and establishment Democrats) are still arguing over Israel and trans rights. I'm so very glad we elected more, bluer Democrats, but we've still got work to do to hold these people to their promises.

[–] freely1333@reddthat.com 1 points 10 hours ago

Dems just learned they have to let the right unleash full on Nazism for a few years and their constituents will be happy with the crumbs of trickle down economics. Hopefully they are wrong.

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 41 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

This is an opportunity to eliminate the electoral college. Without Texas, Republicans may see the popular vote as the only path to victory.

[–] BremboTheFourth@piefed.ca 8 points 11 hours ago

As long as we're moonshotting I wish I'd see more posts advocating electoral reforms. Ranked choice, something, idk

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 28 points 15 hours ago (4 children)

Weird of him to use the word “sniff”

[–] NekoKoneko@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

He does this all the time. He made some other comments about Republicans getting "spanked" this election, and similarly I think he's the one who after Trump was elected talked extensively about how "daddy's home" and the Democrats were going to get "spanked."

Some people are just gross.

[–] decolo@piefed.social 13 points 15 hours ago

Hey, at least he didn't go with "moisten" or "fondle"

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 1 points 9 hours ago

It's because Trump will leave a stubborn diaper smell that will never go away

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 5 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

After two Trump terms, I imagine the stench is palpable within those walls. Possibly a slip of the tongue, but surely accurate.

[–] runner_g@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 10 hours ago

ServePro has one hell of a contract waiting for them when Trump is wheeled out.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

I bet there’s shitstains on every golden carpet.

[–] desmosthenes@lemmy.world 12 points 13 hours ago

or if the electoral college is replaced with popular voting

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 19 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

are on pace for the biggest midterm landslide since Watergate

That is an interesting comparison... what exactly was that about again? Hmmm.

[–] RFKJrsBrainworm@sh.itjust.works 9 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Fucking republicans trying to steal an election.

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago

Criminals doing criminal things, getting caught leading to massive repercussions

[–] Ianthe__Tridentarius@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (3 children)

Maybe, but I'll believe it when I see it. Everyone thought that Republicans were finished after '08, too, but we all know how that turned out. One historically bad election does not the demise of a party make.

But I'll still keep fingers crossed, though.

[–] Freeposity@lemmy.world 15 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

People forget that the Epstein class controls most of our media and they are speed running to create pervasive AI that will make it difficult for regular people to tell truth from fiction.

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 10 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

People thought the orange pedo and his ilk were absolutely cooked with how much they fucked things up during COVID, especially Jan6. But since the second Biden took office the propaganda outlets did nothing but blame absolutely everything on him and Dems...which ultimately lead to 2024.

I fully expect the next 2 years are going to be an absolute information-bloodbath the instant New Blue is sworn in

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 2 points 9 hours ago

We need to pass a new and expanded fairness doctrine asap

[–] osaerisxero@kbin.melroy.org 6 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

The propaganda outlets did do that, but they weren't the root cause of 2024: that was the Biden administration's pretending that Jan6 didn't happen "in the name of stability". Had they done the correct thing and arrested all the instigators and charged them under the insurrection act, 2022-2024 would have played out very differently.

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 6 points 12 hours ago

You can tell the difference between countries that have dealt with people overthrowing their democracy in the past and those that haven't. Brazil did not fuck around in the same way.

[–] Nollij@sopuli.xyz 11 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Very true, but there's an extra element at play here. Texas has long been viewed as safely red. There isn't much point to voting blue, since the result will always be red. As of now, it's back in play. It's (potentially) a swing state, and a lot of blue voters are going to stay interested.

The most likely scenario is that each of them gets replaced with a Republican at the end of their terms, but those will be a lot closer than historically expected.

[–] Ianthe__Tridentarius@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Oh, Texas has definitely been trending towards this for a while. I remember reading like, 10, 15 years ago that Texas was likely to turn blue around 2030. I just don't think that one state turning blue, even one as large as Texas, means that Republicans are finished in national politics, much as I would like that to be true.

[–] iknewitwhenisawit@fedinsfw.app 5 points 12 hours ago

My understanding is that the Republicans need Texas due to shitty electoral college math.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 3 points 12 hours ago

It's important to note that the Republicans weren't finished after 2008 because Obama was a neoliberal. Historically when a wave like this is followed by strong and decisive action that benefits the working class the Republicans do get screwed for decades.

[–] Ioughttamow@fedia.io 9 points 13 hours ago

Better luck next time slashing the tires of democracy

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

I feel like Kirk near the beginning of Stark Trek VI:

[on whether to help the Klingons]

Kirk: They're animals.

Spock: Jim, there is an historic opportunity here.

Kirk: Don't believe them. Don't trust them.

Spock: They're dying.

Kirk: Let them die!

I probably should have Spock’s reaction to this, but we’re talking about a party, not people.

[–] ProfessorScience@lemmy.world 12 points 15 hours ago
[–] KC_Royalz@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Don't buy into that shit whatsoever. Presidental race is very different and Republicans still control a lot of electoral votes.

The only way we insure it most likely doesn't happen again is if you insist to your reps to join the electoral interstate compact

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

join the electoral interstate compact

Its a good solution in paper until a bad actor takes over a state and breaks their state out of that so the whole thing falls apart. This will need an amendment to a bunch of state constitutions.

[–] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 8 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Sounds great, lets keep texas blue and turn every other red state as well.

[–] Amuro_eat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 13 hours ago

Missouri is starting the transition back to purple finally

[–] MyOpinion@lemmy.today 2 points 14 hours ago

Once we add DC and Port Rico as states that will be very much true.
