Something to be proud of I'm sure!

Once they went to the new planet and stuff it kinda lost focus.

This. And I remember starting to read the according books and it was much the same as in the show.

Not the person you asked, but I did, at least the first few seasons, meaning: I started to watch the show, then (I guess in a lull between seasons), I started reading the books. IMO the TV adaptation is true to the books and I enjoyed both immensely. It is, at least up to that point, one of the best TV shows ever for me.
But at some point I got bored; season 7 maybe? Does that correlate to book 7?

Last month read The Expanse first 3 books.

Oooh, I wish I could recreate that experience.

I meant it from the POV of 2021, so "wins again in 24"

Still on a retro roll, now re-reading the 3rd part of Ursula K Le Guin's Earthsee I-dont-know-how-many-ology.

She's an amazing author. Might seem a little too tree-hugging and esoteric sometimes, but her heroes always have both feet firmly planted on the ground yet also have weakness, make mistakes, and reflect upon them, and they always have a social worldview.

Her language is simple but has a deep, ancient and lyrical feel to it.

Usually (ime) it's just another cumfy chair like the one she's sitting on. Never had a chaise longue, nor have I ever seen one. Maybe 100 years ago, but nowadays it's a cartoon thing.

While President Trump and the White House regularly circulate imagery altered by artificial intelligence, including demeaning and racist deepfakes, it is usually so over the top that the goal seems more about cartoonish mockery than outright deceit.

The photograph of Ms. Levy Armstrong was different. It has the hallmarks of brazen disinformation from the top level of government: smearing and humiliating one citizen in order to influence public opinion, while sending a warning to other critics to beware of crossing the administration.

Remember this when they say "libruls cant take a joke"

a misleading description of Ms. Levy Armstrong as a “far-left agitator”

lol, everybody who doesn't lick The Don's boots thrice gets that moniker.

Big Oil, coal and other shit have been worming their way into US education for decades, spreading lies, esp. against climate and environmental action. I once listened to a long podcast about this, interviewing parents etc. It was very interesting, and very depressing.

One of the most recognizable geological features in the world, Delicate Arch is reached via a moderate uphill trail to reach the canyon it sits atop. Insanely popular for its sunset views, plan for the crowds (or avoid in winter!). Petroglyphs may be seen on a short spur at the start of the trail.

Petroglyphs found near the Wolfe House at the beginning of the trail; make sure to do the very short spur to reach when hiking. Depicts wild sheep along with figures on horseback (meaning they were created after 1600 when horses were introduced), as well as either dogs or coyotes around the edges.

Standing at one one of the pillars of Delicate Arch looking towards the other. This arch measures 46 ft tall and 32 ft wide (interior) and is the largest free standing arch in the park, and one of the most famous geological features in the world.

The large, currently empty, bowl located just beside Delicate Arch. It makes an almost amphitheater or forum setting in sandstone and provides great seating when waiting for either the sunset or your place in line for a photo-op with the arch.

I have a new job in the social sector. Our boss seems to have slipped into position sideways (they did not do our work for a significant amount of time before).

I got zero onboarding when I started working there; everything I know about the organisational ins and outs I learned by asking my colleagues.

The boss seems to actively want to not inform me of things, i.e. even if I ask about something they reply in the most cursory manner or immediately refer me to somebody else. I have no idea why they do it, my guess is that they sense that they're woefully inadequate for the job, plus me being much older triggers insecurities?

For example, when I could not log into an app to see my future shifts, I asked the boss about it first but they immediately refered me to tech support. Calling them, after a while we found out that the boss had mistyped my name. Then I could log in.

Last week I was sick and waited til Sunday noon to check this week's shifts - but again I couldn't log in. The boss answered neither phone nor email. Fair enough I guess, on a sunday. Thankfully tech support was working and after a long while we found out that the app for checking my shifts only allows log-ins from within the workplace network, not the open web.

I almost missed my monday shift because of that. Boss calls me, enraged. I explained the situation. They clearly did not know that the app only allows log-ins from within the workplace network.

All my coleagues tentatively/silently agree that this boss is useless. How do we keep the workplace running, and why is it me who is left in the dark? Turns out they have a Whatsapp group. I don't use Whatsapp. They asked me repeatedly and urgently to join.

tl;dr: this workplace would fall apart if people wouldn't communicate through Whatsapp instead of official channels.

Stolen & modified. Just some early morning Gimp excercise.

Serious question, I have no idea. Is there an established tradition, sequence of events, rule?

I just asked some kids, and they said they'd come later and secretly do some trick on me, but they didn't seem too sure about it either.

This in Europe btw.

In retrospect, I should apologize for posting such a shitty article from such a shitty source. I did it for the laughs.

Only for reading, easily available in EU, low budget: which e-ink device/distro?

I'm looking for something to read books on, copied over from a local collection (mostly .epub). Networking is not desired, a fast USB connection is. A good battery or exchangeable battery would be nice.

Not too large - maximum DIN A5 for the whole device.

I remember from years ago that some devices were deemed unhackable, some much more suitable to install Linux on.

I'd prefer to buy used, so something that was sold a lot in Europe is preferable.

I will not spend much more than €100.

In other words, some old commercial e-reader that was known for being hackable, I guess.

Please do not recommend the new PineNote, it's (slightly) too large and way too expensive and I don't think I need that much computing power.

Thanks in advance.

When I switched to a True Linux* phone five years ago most projects didn't even have telephony working reliably.

I haven't been following development a lot these days, so for me it's time to ask the question again.

To qualify as a main daily driver, it should do the following reliably:

  • be actively maintained
  • be supported on easily obtainable** hardware
  • handle standard phone calls and texting with a simple GUI
  • including contacts
  • support internet on mobile broadband up to 4G as well as wifi
  • have a minimum set of apps or a current browser to handle basic things like email, calendar
  • handle audio between calls/media etc.

And preferably it should also

  • support 5G
  • support VoLTE
  • handle Bluetooth audio
  • a working Camera app
  • remote access via ssh or similar

Obviously some people will find other things more or less important, but I hope anyone gets the gist of what I'm asking for and concentrates on the larger picture more than details.

* meaning more than just the kernel - an OS that works like a standard Linux OS with familiar software, package management (preferably supporting 3rd party repos), command line access (preferably remote) etc.

** That's a little squishy. For me it includes buying used from online markets as well, and there'd be an upper price limit. But I'd also count a batch ordering system from some small manufacturer. YMMV

Conclusion

According to these comments, there are many good projects in the works, and they're obviously further along than 5 years ago. Some of them impressively so. Thanks for all the answers.

However, not one clearly states "this OS/device combo is my (or some youtuber's) main daily driver"*. I'm not saying there isn't one, but until someone comes out and says so, SailfishOS is still the best bet if you want something that works right now. I know that their commercialism and partly closed source isn't to everybody's taste, but you have to see the history here (Nokia). Also, I know that the company (developer owned afaik) is very open to open-sourcing the rest. One app has already made the switch. And lastly, they're a EU company which means they operate under pretty strict legislation, but could also get EU funding.

* I hear that Ubuntu Touch works for some

I was just invited to do a job interview through Teams (next week).

I guess it's https://teams.live.com/free ?
And I guess they would invite me so I don't have to worry about having an MS account, afaics?

I opened the site on Ungoogled Chromium, it seems to work fine. The hardware is: Thinkpad T430s (10yo). Of course it has a web cam & microphone.
There's a device test https://devicetest.teams.microsoft.com/ which did not return any issues, but did not show me a working connection either. There is no test call functionality.

I'd prefer to test full functionality beforehand, is there a way to do this?

Or experiences?

TIA

edit: my smartphone runs an even obscurer OS than Debian.

edit2: the "make a test call" functionality seems to be part of the desktop app only. Is there one for Linux?

edit3: now support.microsoft.com is blocking me. WTF

edit4: the inofficial Teams for Linux is not an option either because I still need an MS account.
