The sheep mentality and bad information/advice that's given and/or thrown around. It seems more apparent nowadays people aren't willing to try and discover things for themselves.

I find that the HE-4XX will get loud enough at 75% on any Apple device's volume (even with a dongle). Also, very similar on my LG V30 without using the Quad DAC as well.

  • Hifiman Sundara/HE-4XX: Desktop setup at home for music, watching TV and movies, and YouTube.
  • Moondrop Starfield: I use these at home when I need to block out the neighbourhood when everyone decides to mow the lawn at the same time. Or dogs/puppies suffering from separation anxiety.
  • CCA CRA: My beater set for work. Provides enough noise reduction on construction/work sites to protect my ears.
  • AKG N400C: My grab and go for errands. The sound signature has grown on me but it's nothing special. Noise cancellation isn't that much better than the CRA's.
  • QianYun Qian39: I use these in bed listening to ASMR. They're comfortable enough to fall asleep in.

It's better to start off with cheap IEMs to figure out your preference, IMO.
