Here's Andrew from the headphone show using Spotify to test the Sennheiser HE-1 ... lol

They have that effect for sure!! The HD800 has become sorta controversial as of late. A lot of conflicting opinions on it.
Comfort wise I can say they're decent.
As for metal and rock they're phenomenal!
I only have experience with this set.
Try the search bar on the subreddit.
Hopefully!!!
You can always eq them to be warmer, but yeh ... I get it
Yeah, the negative pre amp lowers the volume so you need more juice to get them going.
In this case, it's similar in all price brackets
It's so subjective in some areas that there isn't a "centralised" data base or resource channel for this kinda stuff.
I get my bearing from reddit (not too much tho), head-fi, a few reviewers such as Resolve from The Headphone Show, Crinacle, and a few others.
I can't get a neat unanimous answer on DACs/Amps anywhere.
For me is just searching and getting a grasp of what the majority have to say about the subject.
Though I'm not best person to ask about these things.
You can try to join the Headphones Show discord and ask Resolve himself.
He's usually prone to conversation.
That's the point ... it's not comparing to higher brackets, that will obviously be better.
I'm talking in this price range and slightly above.
If you have a good Amp/Dac, but the HE400se.
If your source isn't that good, get the hd560s.
Those are mixing headphones foremost. There will be more nuance on the trebble.
Bass will be leaner and generally less forward. Definitely not made for bass.
Yet, you can adjust.
I have the AKG K240 MKii. Their bass is really weak. Applied a low shelf filter at around 150hz, which made the bass a bit stronger. It's not bassy, mind you ... it's stronger.
A big plus is that bass will be more nuanced instead of having the bloat that you're used to with your XM4s. It definitely takes a while to get used to.
