So the basics of what I've read is:

  • Discord stores all messages and media. If you delete it, or delete your account, its still there.
  • Discord does not SELL that data. Instead, they hand it over to the ad companies that are the shareholders of Discord.
  • Discord has lots of security flaws that are abused by third parties all the damn time.

I know its different now because Discord has nitro and there are lots if good reasons to subscribe. But Discord ran without all if that subscriber funding and in that time they probably found ways to make money off of what resources they had at the time... Information.

Lemmy feels great. Discord alternatives, some of them feel OK and when I bring up issues with their performance I'm reminded they are open source.

I find mastodon boring and I just think people who wanna use defederated twitter are different and more common than people who wanna use defederated reddit. Peertube though, now that is a compelling argument.

Their bombs arent deliberately targeting much of anything... Even though those bombs are extremely expensive and capable of centimeter precision targeting.

Discord is spyware and all of my friends are the laziest most boring people for thinking they should spend their entire social lives on one app.

I had a wonderful educational experience with my younger teachers, even had one under 30. I think if we paid teachers more we could also encourage more competition and hold them to higher standards, leading to less tolerance of bad behaviors. Some amount of bad behaviors is gonna turn out to be abuse.

The disinterest from Western governments in shifting diets isn’t surprising — meat remains the third rail of climate politics. It tastes good, it’s become a mainstay of Western diets, and it’s become linked to ideals like prosperity and masculinity.

This is so real lmao. I'm done thinking of SJWs as annoying, screechy and having colored hair. But I still can't get a sour image of veganism out of my head.

Are these climate summits even anything? I hear so much mixed news about renewable infrastructure.

The UAE really is gunning to be The Good Middle Eastern Country and its been met with a lot of friction but I'm ngl I'm excited for it. Basically I think this is a real attempt st progress rather than smuggling their reputation, in contrast to Saudi Arabia.

Leaving the US was a dream I had as a child. Considering how my life is going and an increased competition for the privilege of emigrating to the EU, it seems pretty unlikely.

The american dream is to live better off than your parents. Generally through getting more education.

... Lol.

The other term that comes to mind is Social Mobility. I remember learning in history class how America had an obscenely high social mobility àt many times throughout our history. And that has vanished. Like, completely.

Huh? Oh yea, you're right. Hollywood is only focused on a convenient and easy view of how autistic people can be portrayed.

I think I might have replied to the wrong comment.
