The Timberwolves have had this called on them numerous times this year. The broadcast said it is something along the lines of so nothing damages or bends the rim / stanchion and disrupts the game having to fix it. I get the premise behind calling it, but yeah it is lame.

Success and overpaying can both be true. The trade can work out and be good for the organization, but this will always be an overpay no matter what because the Wolves gave up multiple more draft picks than anyone thinks is reasonable. The players given up are negligible at least, especially compared to the Cavs giving up Markkanen for Mitchell.
