I'm still using Nova as it's so feature-rich. I've had 0 problems with it, but I had no idea people were dropping it. Also had no idea it for bought out either, so maybe it's time to look into using another launcher instead...

I actually just looked it up. In certain states, this falls under the "Stand Your Ground" law.

Defense of Others: State law permits the use of force, including deadly force, to defend another person. Non-deadly force is justified when a person reasonably believes it is necessary to protect someone from imminent unlawful force. Deadly force is justified to prevent imminent death, great bodily harm, or a "forcible felony" to the other person. Examples of forcible felonies include murder, robbery, and aggravated assault.

Immunity from Prosecution: A key feature of the Stand Your Ground law is potential immunity from criminal prosecution and civil lawsuits if the use of force is found to be legally justified. A defendant can request a pretrial hearing to determine if their actions were justified, potentially leading to dismissal of the case. The prosecution must provide clear and convincing evidence that the force was not justified.

Important Considerations: The force used must be proportional to the threat. Stand Your Ground does not apply if the person was engaged in unlawful activity or provoked the attack. Immunity also generally does not apply when using force against a law enforcement officer performing their duties.

Meaning if you see a bunch of masked men trying to abduct someone and they aren't identifying themselves as law enforcement, you can legally shoot them to defend the person being assaulted. You would also be immune from criminal prosecution for doing so.

You'd better be a great shot though. And you'd probably get killed. At minimum for sure you're getting arrested (and probably disappeared). But you are legally in the clear. And the news would be ALL over it. I'd like the TACO administration compete against Republican-state laws.

PFOA was banned, but PFOS and other very-slightly-different forever chemicals are not banned, therefore get around those regulations due to that technicality. Also, the current US administration is looking into removing a lot of those regulations.

"We must come together to do something about this."

Kinda late for that now. You should've come together months ago to NOT elect Trump as your president. He didn't lie to you. He told you EXACTLY what he was going to do.

I hope you enjoy what you voted for.

The point is ALWAYS to save money. That's what got us here in the first place

If it walks, talks, and violates human rights like a duck, I'm calling it a fucking duck.

ICE is the modern day Gestapo.

Not sure if that's a negative thing in their eyes though.

Then just go on Tuesdays for $5 movies. Even if it's something you very mildly are interested in, it won't break the bank. And you can sneak in your own snacks if you don't want to splurge at the concession stand

You're right. Cartels forceibly take "protection" money from you and leave you alone. If you can't pay, they might kill you.

US Healthcare wont FORCE you to pay them. But even if you do, you still might die because whatever you're dying from isn't covered. Much less blood on their hands.

I think it's more accurate to say homophobic people have a mental illness

I've been interested in self-hosting for a while, but didn't really know where to start. I've never messed with Linux before and wanted to jump ship from Windows since Microsoft decided to start putting ads everywhere. I came across this post [https://lemmy.world/post/6542543] which was exactly what I was looking for to start, and seemed like a straight-forward guide. I have two laptops, one I want to act as my media server with Docker and the other as my everyday device. Except I've been met with setback after setback from the start. I tried installing Ubuntu Server on the media server laptop but just could not get it up and running. I was suggested to try using a more beginner-friendly distro, so I went with Mint. I also liked the idea of a GUI I can mess around with.

Docker was a success, but then I got to the Adguard part and when I try the docker-compose.yml step, grub just hangs. Decided to skip that part and go onto Jackett. Nope, more errors. Tried Prowlarr, different errors.

I don't want to give up on this because its something I really want to get going for my media, home automation, cameras, etc etc. But I feel like I'm flying blind here.

I have a lot of homework to do to learn Linux, but is there a different, beginner-friendly guide out there for me to follow for now?

Edit: I appreciate everyone's comments. Although I have no Linux experience, I know my way around Windows pretty well. I understand file systems and in one of my errors that was asked, I was getting a "No File or Directory exists" error. I edited the username to fit my what I have, but was still getting the error. I even created a new user named Prowlarr when attempting the Powlarr install to follow the steps word-for-word, no luck. It got frustrating so I gave up for the day.

I admit I do have a lot of learning to do, and I am really grateful some of you have provided start-points for my Linux journey. I'm also grateful for the "Self-hosting For Dummies" recommendations, like Yunohost and YAMS. I plan on looking over all of this info today to get a solution up for now and start my path down the Linux rabbithole. Its kinda exciting to start embarking on something like this.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who gave me great feedback!

I used to upvote comments on reddit to come back to them later. How can i see my upvoted comments on Lemmy/Boost ?

It was in its fillings

There are a couple of heavy things running through my head I kinda want to get off my chest (nothing deeply personal though) and discuss with people. It's more than just casual conversation, so I can't post there.

Are there any alternatives?
