It's a very clean, well executed and slightly boring watch that isn't a Rolex Explorer. There's nothing wrong with it, just – there isn't much to talk about.

Watches are cool and all but they're just jewellery. For the most part they're also not worth spending that much money on them (exceptions: someone's super wealthy, someone's been setting aside money for one for a long time, it's to remember a special occasion like wedding or retirement), at least from my point of view.

I could buy a Glashuette Original Panomatic Lunar right now; but also that's like 10% of a downpayment for an apartment in my city and an apartment obviously offers way more utility than a wrist trinket.

Don't get me wrong, I think trinkets are great; I just have a modicum more self control than a magpie (way worse plummage tho) so if I REALLY want to get a watch, I'll get a Casio.

Both are Casios: Edifice "The Real CasiOak" EFR-S108D. Currently on my wrist, super slender, sapphire glass, has good finishing (brushed horizontal, polished vertical) and other design details that just show the designer wanted to make a cool watch.

Bracelet is workable, Pelagos aftermarket straps from aliexpress might fit with some coercing and are more comfortable. Recently Casio released an octagonal chronometer with the same (or same-ish) case shape but on a strap, I want to get my hands on it (the strap, not necessarily the watch).

Honorable mention: Casio "Budget Panda" EFR-526L-7AV - likely either or a horizontal version of this (they're hard to find) is my next watch purchase. Just gotta hit that milestone first :D

Let me answer by asking you two questions:

  1. do you know who is the strongest chess player?

  2. who do you think is a better chess player, Maxim Vachier Lagrave or Levon Aronian?

Any watch that someone would consider "value for money". Means they did their research.

I'd say probably around $200 right now.

Watches are cool and shit but they're mostly useless and Casio/Citizen/Timex put out good watches.
