Books have Stroud as heavy favorite to win OROTY. Part of it is his statistical performance, part of it is how good the tape looks, and part of it is Houston's record. If Houston's defense was worse or the close games swung the other way off say a RB mispay, is Stroud still OROY? Puka and Gibbs are the distant contenders.

Pausing to avoid revisionism: everyone was saying Carolina situation while not good was considerably better than Arizona and Houston.

Seems like far fewer but stupider penalties

At first I thought Stroud was in great company, then a little down the list I had to hold my nose.

  1. Dak Prescott 104.9
  2. Robert Griffin III 102.4
  3. C.J. Stroud 101.0
  4. Russell Wilson 100.4
  5. Justin Herbert 98.3
  6. Ben Roethlisberger 98.1
  7. Dan Marino 96.0
  8. Baker Mayfield 93.7
  9. Mac Jones 92.5
  10. Marcus Mariota 91.5
  11. Gardner Minshew 91.2
  12. Nick Mullens 90.8
  13. Joe Burrow 89.8
  14. Davis Mills 88.8
  15. Greg Cook 88.3
  16. Matt Ryan 87.7
  17. Daniel Jones 87.7
  18. Kyler Murray 87.4
  19. Tua Tahovailoa 87.1
  20. Teddy Bridgewater 85.2

Note: variable amount of games played. Mullens and Stroud only rookies with <10 games.

If Texans make the playoffs and Stroud has the same stat line as say Mahomes, does he deserve MVP?

And CJ Stroud
