Sometimes we get bored because our goals are too small. I remember thinking that I wanted to make $100,000 a year at a job. When I did that in IT at age 27 I noticed I lost something. I lost energy and drive.

Try setting your goals higher. What does a $10 million business look like for you? A $100 million business? If that doesn't excite you maybe you need to start another business and see how many businesses you can start and run.

I agree. I actually have two coaching clients where I have helped them get better jobs and clarity in their career. I don’t advertise but the results of their actions speak loudly for how I coach them. Part of the challenge is that people what a better situation for themselves in their families so they will go to some of these coaching gurus thinking it is going to help at the end of the day they may spend thousands of dollars but not get the result they want. You have to be careful out there because people are desperate and need a solution to their problem. I think as long as you add value and can prove that you value that it’s OK to be a coach.

Someone said that you should give away your best stuff for free and once that happens, people will ask you for your page stuff because they want more. The fake gurus are using marketing tactics to get you to buy the products. There are a few out there that legitimately know what they’re doing and they’re making a business out of their knowledge, which to me is the right thing to do and ethical.

You just have to find them.

You get rich through leverage and value creation. Make value for a lot of people and they will give you some of that value back. Capture it and you are on your way.

Sometimes it is not a jump but more of a push or kick.

I found out on a Monday that I didn't have a job anymore. I was lucky that I was given a severance package that almost lasted a year, but I was caught between going back to an area I had started to age out of or going forward in a new area where I didn't have a lot of experience. In the end I decided to start my own firm and I have been working in it ever since.

I didn't have money to start the business but I knew I could use my transferrable skills and give it a go. That is all you need because money will come as you go. When you get kicked out or pushed, you are starting from the bottom anyway so there is no where to go but up.

I did it all myself

I am an executive recruiter, who started a practice at the beginning of the pandemic after working 25 years in engineering and information technology in Corporate America. In the first three years we were able to achieve over $200,000 annually in revenue. I have an executive assistant and contract recruiters, working part time as we grow the business.

My question is what do you need money for? What is the purpose? If you don’t have purpose then making money won’t fulfill you. Find out why you are on this planet and then use the ability to make money as the driving force for you to fulfill your purpose. You are designed to solve a problem and all money does is give you the assets and the tools and the resources to solve that problem for all the people who have it.

I started mine right away and got an EIN number the same day. It took a few minutes and I was up and running.

I just hired a person from Africa as my executive virtual assistant (EVA) and she is great. I would try to get hired by a company that can offer your services to people like me.

Always start with the problem you want to solve. AI becomes the team that helps you solve the problem. Then you charge people with the problem.
