How to get rich, it's simple really but too late for me, join a growing company, work your way from the bottom to the top.

This is genius. Start with $1, double it to $2, make it grow to $4, expand it to $8, duplicate it to $16, and so on.

I never thought about that in those terms.

It's foolproof really, every month they just funnel funds straight into your bank account, I couldn't believe it either! Genius!

What is this a Key and Peele skit?

Buy bitcoins or mine bitcoins 13 years ago.

Would not advise. Most companies will fail and others won’t advance you.

no one asked you

[–] travelguy23@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You can do it in 20 years without getting to the top. Good job. Good pay. Invest. It's easy. Seriously.

[–] JamesJorgeCod@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Starting a business would be easier and would allow you to learn more. Depending on the work environment, I suppose you could get just meh wages from a new company, but starting your own would be better.

[–] Asleep_Chipmunk_424@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Doesnt work like this anymore, you will be made redundant after 5-10 years, your job goes to India and you have to start again at the bottom. Has happened to me 4 times now.

[–] pennyPete@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I also have it figured out. Time travel back to 2013/2014 and buy even just a couple hundred Bitcoin! Presto! Now, you can to back to doing jackshit on the couch with a beer in hand.

[–] Rufus_Anderson@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As long as you are alive, you will either live to accomplish your own goals and dreams or be used as a resource to accomplish someone else’s.

I will take freedom over a 5-9 paycheck.

[–] davidedgertonjr@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You get rich through leverage and value creation. Make value for a lot of people and they will give you some of that value back. Capture it and you are on your way.

[–] Mrmastermax@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wrong that’s what some did and they got redundant by stakeholders.

[–] threddit321@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Ahh yes, nothing like the security of social security

[–] Responsible_Fee3118@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Well, it's never too late to start, right?

[–] FaithlessnessPast929@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I don’t like this answer

[–] ilfusionjeff@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s faster to just inherit it.

[–] idealistintherealw@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

yeah. Be the non-technical #4 hire at google, end up as the CEO of youtube via sheer momentum.

I know a LOT of people who lost 20 years bouncing around silicon valley trying to be an early hire in a startup. Pretty sure at least one of them is now driving doordash.

For the rest of us we'll start our own business, save and invest, side hustle.

[–] Pirelly@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What if you don't get to the top?

[–] TraderSigma@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The meaning of Entrepreneur is creating your own job, not just being rich

[–] ThickMommaPump@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Better hope the company doesn't go bankrupt before you get to the top.

[–] Foxy_Loxy_Moxy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

i don't have the time to do that. i need results suddenly.

[–] Itsraya_al@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

uhmm, isnt that obvious? haha

[–] investornation@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Seems messed up but I make the most money in my life last year from a Ponzi scheme 😂 since then been jumping in and out of them before they go bust and is the best hobby currently to make money.. I did get lucky on the first one but since then it’s pretty easy to do consistently

Oh, so you've cracked the code? And here we were, thinking the secret to wealth was finding a genie or inventing a money tree! But seriously, it's refreshing to see someone embrace the classic 'rags to riches' tale without actually having to sew any rags. Next thing you'll tell us is to "invest in our future" or "save for a rainy day" – how delightfully quaint! Just remember, if working your way to the top was easy, everyone would be up there, enjoying the view and probably getting vertigo. Here's to your enlightening hindsight; may it inspire legions of desk jockeys to start their own odysseys from the mailroom to the boardroom!

[–] shivmsit@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Naaa, you never know even in growing companies that it would keep the momentum throughout. You would get only 2-3 chances if you can't get the right company then it's all over.

Better work for yourself and you can do it now too.

[–] horus-heresy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Huh? That’s some boomer mentality that car mechanic if spends long enough in a growing shop will become ceo. Nowadays you grow by hopping jobs to higher titles

[–] Asset-Management-Guy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wait, so no affiliate marketing dropshipping shopify solar panel sales amazon merch on demand discord server millionaire mindset masterclass platinum diamond status?????????

[–] miteycasey@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Lol. I did this out of college and the owner stopped growing because the company was ‘big enough for him’.

But this is the reason some people go to work for startups.

[–] AncientOneX@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I understand why you say that. It's hard when some random acquaintances make more than you as employees, but as an entrepreneur your income is not capped. Needs some luck too, but with hard work and good ideas you can make a fortune.

[–] asault2@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Also, don't be too young, or too old, or too female, or too gay, or too qualified, but don't be underqualified, be eager to learn, but not too eager, be in the right place at the right time, but don't look desperate, be competent in your work but don't seem like you're gunning for your superiors job, be well spoken but don't talk too much, ask for raises, but don't complain when you don't get them.

[–] JuustinB@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Starting a job with a new/emerging company in 2023 is a great way to find yourself jobless again in a year or two.

[–] akshayjamwal@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The “top” is a managerial job. There are only so many to go around and many lower-level jobs.

Also, what guarantee do you have that a) the company will continue to grow and b) your career will grow with the company? I’ve always had my own business, mostly catering to B2B businesses. A commonality amongst all of them was that the manager liaising with me would be a decades-old employee for that company. I wouldn’t describe a single one of them as rich. Comfortable or well off? Sure. Rich? No.

And if you’re wondering how I can confidently say that, you can surmise that across several conversations at lunch, dinner, after work etc. Most folks are just happy that they have enough money to provide their kids with a decent education.

Betting on yourself and your own ideas is riskier but also entails better rewards in that same timeframe.

I've actually had success doing this but not on purpose. I joined as employee number 13 at a company that now has about 1500 employees and made a good amount of money after it went public.

I did the same thing again, as employee number 16 at another company and got consistently promoted just cause I was "the guy that's been around a while" until I was at director level (note: this only took around 7 years, so not as bad as OP makes it sound)

So actually, while this is a joke, it can work. Get in early at a startup and ride the wave.

[–] markaritaville@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

this is a plan that could work. Also starting your own business is a plan that could work. Or buying someone elses business could work. There are millions of ways to make money just need to consider your perspective.

i have friends who are wealthy in Corporate world, and also as business owners. could spin that either way

for your suggestion I would argue that in the business world most times its easier to not be loyal for a while...as jumping to a new company/competitor will likely get you faster growth than sticking around.

My best friend is doing this. Started in sales out of college and always loved cars. Our college friend had a car dealership and was looking to grow it and hire his first non-family salesperson (only other person was his mom). Early 2019 he took a pay cut, moved a few states away, and started slinging used luxury cars. Slowly hired more salesmen, started managing while still selling, moved to sales director, then general manager of the dealership. Got featured in a national ad campaign cause they sell a large amount of cars sight unseen to people out of state. Worked a ton of hours the first few years and scaling back somewhat now. Making bank and I know it’ll only grow as the dealership continues to grow

Joining startups is just as risky as starting one but you have less control
