Excellent gift. And I wouldn’t hesitate to get the quartz rather than the more expensive automatic. Quartz is more accurate and easier to deal with (lasts 2 years on a battery rather than 3 days on its spring). If he gets into watches more down the line, he can get some automatics later, but if he’s early in the process, quartz is fine.

I love Christopher Ward, but this gives me Aliexpress vibes. It’s a pass for me.

From my own personal experience, Mido and Christopher Ward are a step up quality wise. Longines is another step up (like Tudor). I’ve never been impressed by Oris myself, but others love them.

You know there are also some great watches made OUTSIDE of China. You should check some out!

That’s not a watch. That’s Joe Biden.

In addition to the Casio suggestions, could consider a Swatch. They’re pretty cool and the “ladies” options would be a good size for a kid’s wrist.

I have one two, and it’s amazing and gets a ton of wrist time. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills not seeing then everywhere.

Honestly any of the brands people talk about here. Other than Rolex, maybe omega, maybe tag, and maybe Seiko for the middle class, it’s all watch nerds. If I see a Tudor I’m striking up a conversation.
