IMHO, problem with Diaspora is that they refused to adopt ActivityPub, so federation is very limited. And it certainly is not as buzzing as it was 10 years ago.

Generally, I heard Bonfire will be the "next big thing" in that space - but you are right. There isnt THE ONE, yet.

You are aware that the default Mastodon interface has a tab called "trending"?

CoMaps is an app that focuses on user friendliness. But it might lack some "power features".

Osmand is great when you really want to tweak your map experience. But it can be a little complicated for the occasional user.

If you can't find a location/address with your OSM app, check if the data even exists on OSM. If it is not there yet, you can check out StreetComplete, which is a cool way to add, check & fix the upstream OSM data.

In my experience, it doesn't matter where you are on the internet, you will always be faced with idiots who try to bring you down.

Don't let them win. Be yourself and politely ignore (and block) the hell out of these people. It is YOUR time and you should be able to live it the way YOU want it.

It's like talking about hair and hairstyles and then applying the derived insights to birds, because their feathers "remind" us of hair.

It just doesn't apply. Other contexts require dedicated concepts that are not "loaded" by using termina from irrelevant concepts.

Emotive language does not help your argument. It weakens any validity it might have otherwise.

Plants don't "feel pain". The entire concept of "pain" is alien to everything without a central nervous system.

Plants DO however react to stressful external stimuli. They do that in a way, that we will never be able to relate to.

Some publications use words as "pain" and "suffering" in that context in order to go give non-academic folks something to relate. But on a scientific level, these terms are irrelevant at best.
