You don't need to win a championship to be able to play "human chess" in the playoffs. And the number 50 is just a random number to begin with. Plenty of 50+ regular season wins teams had inconsistent regular seasons and plenty of teams with a worse record that beat "consistent" regular season teams with a better record. Last year being a good example of that.
Many teams have had good or great playoff runs after subpar/inconsistent regular seasons.
