Haberstroh wrote an article about CP3 and Foster on his substack but he tweeted out this stat and it's astounding.

https://twitter.com/tomhaberstroh/status/1727596935534559437

reddit wants me to add more thoughts so I'll just add that Scott Foster is closely tied with a corrupt gambling ref and shouldn't have been allowed to officiate for the last 20 years.

https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/scott-foster-recipient-of-134-tim-donaghy-phone-calls-refereeing-celtics-heat-game-3/

Foster is the official who received 134 phone calls from disgraced referee Tim Donaghy between October 2006 and April 2007, as originally reported by FOX News. That was the same period during which Donaghy admitted to betting on NBA games. The report said that Donaghy called Foster more than any other ref and that he didn't call any other official more than 13 times.

Scott Foster is untouchable, a made man. He could throw the whole team out and BA couldn't say shit

Until someone watches these games and addresses the actual calls, this shit is just lazy click bait.

[–] secretsodapop@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Every time it's posted CP3 is in the wrong. Like he's clearly the aggressor in this one and should have been ejected. He has some personal issue with Foster.

[–] mangotail@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

He was mad about a foul that happened a couple plays ago. He was called for an offensive foul by Foster, Kerr challenged it, the challenge was unsuccessful, but it was actually a foul on Looney. He should have gotten a tech, but the second one? No. That’s what Kerr was arguing about. Two quick techs to throw out a player for just some talk while the ref is also talking back, like come on. There are no consequences for the ref for talking back when he should have just walked away like a ref is supposed to do. Steph & Kerr brought this up too in their presser

[–] xShockmaster@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He literally calls Scott foster a bitch. There’s video of it lmao. That’s an instant tech no matter what ref.

Yeah exactly, where is the code of conduct for a referee enforced?

[–] Kon22_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Even if you don't watch, 52 free throws in a game happens to a team once a decade. He's not even trying to hide his intentions.

[–] capajalosa@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The lazy here is you. Go watch the games. Suns playoffs are a good starting point.

[–] Southern_Opinion4659@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He’s not the one making this claim though, OP is. You don’t get to make shit up then say other people have to prove it

Legitimately needs to be an investigation

[–] TylerDurdensAlterEgo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The refs get too much shit in every sport. It's legitimately really difficult to to do what they're supposed to do. Every call they make half the audience vocally hates and the other half is in smug silence.

That being said, this particular narrative with Foster/narrative is too shady and needs to be really looked at

...and for the record I like Foster. I think he's usually pretty fair

[–] JohnHamFisted@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (9 children)

genuinely don't get how it can be so out there in the open that betting odds are affected, articles are constantly written about it, and still it keeps happening, and still the league does/says fkn nothing about it, just a joke at this point

[–] SelfAwareLitterBox@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Not only do they do nothing about it, but if a player criticizes the reffing after the game, they'll fine that player for it.

[–] limark@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I can understand why the league doesn't want players to bad mouth the refs in public, but for all that they claim that there's a system in place for teams to file complaints against the refs, nothing happens.

Jokic and Malone getting ejected the other day was a joke and there's no way complaints weren't filed and now we've got this just days later. Not to mention that the most egregious offenders are often the ones reffing the finals.

Makes you wonder if there’s quid pro quo with the NBA and NBA Refs somewhere down the line. Lotta money in sports gambling now.

[–] Edogawa1983@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Probably like if the league does anything the refs say they all bet on the games and the league gets destroyed

it miiiiight be because y'all are making shit up in your heads?

[–] Mister_Squibbles@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Chris paul basically said the same thing in his post game interview. That foster has a personal grudge against him and they even had to hold a meeting with chris paul and his family and foster before…

[–] Gauthzu@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I know and? He clearly deserved that ejection so what's all the fuss?

His teams lose by an average of almost 12 points in those loses and people think it's a ref issue lol

Holy crap, Foster is a shady mofo. CP3 probably shoulda filed a restraining order after finding out about those calls. No wonder they lost so bad in the playoffs every damn time...someone call Commissioner Silver and get this ref fired ASAP!

[–] DestinySaber@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Lmao, you gave me a good laugh

[–] thy_armageddon@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

One of those sigma male shorts but instead of it being the clear bad guy in a movie/film it’s about Scott Foster.

[–] domdomburg@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Or maybe CP is just a big choker that complains too much. Maybe Foster is doing the league a great service by keeping that bitch in check.

[–] AdhesivenessHot4040@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As a Warriors fan, its still such a weird feeling not having the desire to upvote a comment of this nature

[–] thekarmagiver@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That's not how probability works

[–] Low_Command_5252@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Lol you have Luka in your team

[–] BrandinPodziemski@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

big choker that complains too much

Hope you don’t watch the mavericks in the playoffs this year hahahahaha

[–] RosaReilly@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Foster is the official who received 134 phone calls from disgraced referee Tim Donaghy between October 2006 and April 2007

Foster calls loads of refs all the time. Donaghy's crimes were spotted by patterns in the betting. These patterns do not exist for other referees.

[–] jseed@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah, because no one has noticed any patterns with Foster's reffing. Especially with particular players or scenarios. Or given him a nickname like the "Extender" for some reason: https://twitter.com/bigjimmurray/status/1518632378360598530?lang=en

[–] RosaReilly@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That's not what I meant. I meant changes in the betting line from opening. There were huge changes for Donaghy games, because he was fixing them and people were betting large amounts, which changed the odds.

[–] Pumpoozle@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How does he do in games not reffed by Scott Foster? CP3 is a well known playoff choker, not sure it can be blamed on Foastee.

[–] IHateYouKids@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The NBA shill accounts glaring and prolific

Don’t know about y’all but I love this sport and everything that comes with it

[–] seddard@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

We also need Chris Paul's overall record in playoffs when favored for context.

Didn’t watch the game but if he was calling moving screens on the Warriors the fouls number seems legit

[–] NotBot2357@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

How likely is it that someone would win 3 or fewer games out of 20 when they expected to win 75% of the time? According to a binomial distribution, the answer is 0. https://stattrek.com/online-calculator/binomial

That's literal mathematical proof that Scott Foster is fixing games against CPIII.

[–] kdognhl411@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I can’t tell if you’re serious but you do realize the statistical method you’re using works with events with an ACTUAL 75% chance of occurring and you’re using it to apply to scenarios where betting markets or journalists think it’s a 75 chance right? Those aren’t the same thing and it means you can’t just blindly do a binomial distribution and declare it proof of match fixing lol.

[–] KnowledgePrevious@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As the other reply says, this is not actually how statistics works

[–] Axisofcoolio@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The fact that Foster remains untouchable tells me he has to have some type of dirt on the league.

[–] ljrubbo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (6 children)

I think the only way anything will ever be done about Foster is if fans ruin the TV product with chanting. If every time Foster does anything, the entire stadium starts chanting “Donaghy”, then the NBA will be forced to do something. The NBA cant afford to lose credibility, so if Donaghy trends on twitter after every game and people start googling Donaghy bc they heard the chants, its going to damage the league’s reputation. Once casual fans start to learn about Foster’s connection to Donaghy, mainstream sports media is going to jump on this storyline and presumably make a ton of money off of it.

Lol when that article came out a few months ago about the playoff losing streak I did some math based off the pre game Vegas odds, and the streak had literally like a 0.004% chance of happening. Posted that here and got totally shit on and called a conspiracy theorist. I think people are finally coming around to the idea that foster does not ref these games fairly

[–] MarkPles@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (6 children)

The fact that this many fans even know a refs name should be alarming

Wasn't there an allegation that David Stern ruined the FBI's investigation into other refs?
