I’ve heard a few 3000+ dacs and can’t tell the difference between my humble su8 v2 side by side with the same headphones and amp.

Seriously those jokes remind me of a gambling addict I knew who is in prison for stealing company money to feed the addiction.
It is hype. It’s insane how many people don’t mind massive bass distortion and the complete lack of any sub-bass and having to replace pads every other year. Yeah the vocals sound cool but I really don’t think they are compete above 150$.
If you want that find a headphone cafe or go to a meetup or find a way to try like 10 totl headphones.
I don’t really like them. Fairly high distortion under 300hz, no subbass, and an airy treble forward diffuse field presentation. Honestly the good all koss porta pro has a similar sound.
Certainly not bad but definitely a divisive sound signature especially for the price.
No plenty of headphones sound awesome stock. But eq is useful for making them sound better especially since everyone hears differently
Ive never noticed a dac improvement and have tried a lot. Bad amps are super noticeable but after a certain point i can’t tell the difference. I use a 500$ amp and a 200$ dac currently with multiple 3k plus headphones which some may consider unbalanced. I personally get a lot more out of the headphones/speakers than dacs or amps.
I feel like these are usually around 1500-2000. Hard time justifying 3k+ lol
