For Latin America I would say a Grayl water filter bottle is a must-have. Unfortunately I lost mine on the way home after my first trip with it, but I immediately bought another one. It's $100, but definitely worth it when tap water isn't safe. Also great for long walks during the day that may have a waterfall/stream.

Taiwan was my first solo trip (and first time in Asia). It was amazing. Indonesia was my second one. I would suggest Taiwan for the internet stability. Try to learn a little Chinese as well.

Correct. I've been told Google Flights is about as good as it gets. My airport on East Coast isn't one of the big hubs unfortunately.
