I was able to snag a pair of these for a discount for Black Friday and I really love them. I owned the AirPods Max for wireless and had nothing but trouble with two different pairs of them and I’m not trying them ever again. The Focals are so comfortable and the ANC and transparency modes are excellent. I’m very happy with them.

After struggling to find a headphone stand that I liked and also fit in my set up I decided to make my own.

These are just 5 inch L brackets with a then strip of foam on the top to protect the headbands.

I like to rotate headphones quite often but found that I was only using the two that were most accessible. Now everything is right at my fingertips depending on my mood or genre. I keep my Stax in an acrylic box just above the LCD-4 so while it doesn’t make the wall it is right there as well.

Title says it all.

So I came home today and found a package by the entrance, little did I know my girlfriend had gotten me a little present (not little at all) and decided to give it to me early.

These are the Campfire Audio Ara. I’ve had some experience with campfire audios entry level line up (Comet and Io) a few years ago but sold them as I was downsizing at the time. Courtesy of my girlfriend, I am glad to get the opportunity to try my first Kilobuck Iems.

I am still going through my music library as of now but if anyone has any questions, don’t hesitate.

I've always liked bass-tilted headphones, the Denon AH-D5200 being my favourite pair.

But only in the last few days have I heard great QUALITY bass. I shifted from Spotify to Qobuz, and upgraded from the Topping DX3 Pro to the Topping A30 Pro.

The dynamic swings are so much more dramatic, and the bass is so much more textured. It's not just a wall of bass anymore, like it has a sense of space now.

While the change in streaming service has no doubt played a part in this, I am now firmly in the camp of "different amps/dacs make a difference". It must have something to do with voltage swings. And don't tell me the volume isn't matched, because it is, I measured it with a mic.

I have 2 planar IEMs but never had BA. I hear explanations of Bass mids and highs when they keep comparing to dynamics, but it all sounds like planars and BA are similar? Bass is tighter and accurate, but not as impactful, mids and treble can be very well reflected with them.

So, anyone who has single BA (Etymotic sr4, Aful Magic One and the likes etc.) and single planar (letshuoers, Tinhifi etc.), please tell me your experience.

Are there any feasible options to optimise sound for people with impaired hearing in one ear? This is a genetic thing I've had since I was a child but basically my left ear is completly trash (I have to almost max out volume in my left earbud if in order to comprehend conversational audio), -20 to -25 db in mids and highs and lower loss in bass.

Has anyone with similar poor hearing in one ear been able to find a solution to normalise the sound when wearing overhead headphones? My brain somewhat does this automatically but any sounds from the left side are still lacking imaging and detail obviously. This is most evident in gaming as I can't tell where an enemy is if they're on my left side, but it's also noticeable in music too.

Any tips and advice are appreciated, and no I don't just crank up the volume.

I'm looking for suspension headband headphones like the Philips Fidelio X2HR, but with active noise cancellation. I can't seem to find any though. Does this not exist?

The reason I'm looking for it is because I just bought the Sony mh-1000mx4 but the headband is hurting my head when wearing them for long times. Before this I had a cheap set of suspension headband headphones that were way more comfortable IMO.

EDIT: I've found the Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless which fits the bill. However this is a gaming headset so I'm assuming it will probably have a lesser sound quality than the Sony 1000mx-4. Can anyone comment on this?

Just upgraded from the steelseries arctis nova pro to the beyer DT1990 pro's and holy f am I amazed.

after swapping to the alternate pads & toying with EQ these things are ultra comfortable & sound so so good, It feels like I am so close to the vocals & instruments.

I’ve always had issues with headsets and wearing glasses. No matter what it just pressed the side rims into my ears and becomes really uncomfortable after 20 minutes. Is there anyway to alleviate the issue?

I recently learnt about Hi-fi audio and the audiophile community in general. Felt like I should try out something entry-level in this spectrum. I bought the following two things IEM and DAC

However, I feel I'm unable to truly appreciate the difference. Yes it sounds 'better' in some vague sense of the word but I can't articulate how the sound is different from regular headphones (I have the sony XM4 and other crappy earphones).

I'd really appreciate it if someone gave me a way to really start appreciating and enjoying these devices. Maybe a popular song that amplifies the difference? Or maybe a specific detail that I should look for that I'll find in Hi-fi gear but not in regular headphones?

Looks like I still have no clue what it means to be an audiophile :)

Please help.

Review Of The Kiwi Ears Melody

Introduction

With their numerous releases, such as the Orchestra Lite, Cadenza, Quintet, etc.—whether in a single driver configuration or multiple ones—China-based Kiwi Ears has already established a dominant presence in the budget and mid-tier market. They have revealed every conceivable scenario to accommodate a wide range of customer preferences and tastes. They have established themselves with their well-liked IEMs, which are well-regarded for both their price and quality. Kiwi Ears has returned with new IEMs, the Melody being their first planar model. Although I am fortunate enough to review the melody, I would like to address a few points first.

Disclaimer

*Since this unit tour was organised by the kindly people at Linsoul, I am grateful to them. And as I've said in all of my evaluations, the same is true for this one: all of the concepts I've expressed below are entirely my own, original ideas that haven't been influenced by anyone else. If interested, go to this link.

*I am not associated with the connection, and I receive no financial assistance from anyone.

*For the remainder of the review, I will refer to these IEMs as “Melody.”

*I am using different Ear-tips for convenience and better versatility.

*Finally, I will only evaluate the Melody based on their performance, even though I will explain how it feels and seems physically and aesthetically.

Specification

Melody uses a 12mm in-house developed full range planar magnetic driver configuration. While the faceplate is made of metal, the shell is composed of medical resin. The company's name is printed on the faceplate above both of the shells, which are smaller than they appear. Because of its ergonomic design, the shells fit comfortably, and listening to it for extended periods of time did not cause any weariness or unease. Although the cable that comes with the IEM is attractive and functional, it has a memory hold problem. The cable is 1.2 meters long, with a 3.5 mm straight termination plug on one end and a two pin connection on the other. Six pairs of eartips in two distinct styles and three sizes are among the additional accessories. Regarding the technical details, the sensitivity is 102dB and the impedance is 18 Ohms. At 1 kHz, the total harmonic distortion is less than 0.5%, and the frequency response spans from 5 Hz to 40 kHz.

Sound

After hearing the Melody, my concept of a Planar IEM has changed. I never imagined that a planar could have such beautiful sound. Whatever the graph suggests, the melody sounds pleasant and well-balanced, making it easy to listen to. It is not clarity that you would get, but the physicality and advantages of the planar. Its vibrant and round tone belies its quickness and responsiveness, giving it a surprisingly realistic and mature sound. The wet response, which seemed to provide clarity and details but actually leaned the sound toward artificiality, was my only issue with today's planar IEM. Most other IEMs in this price range struggle to produce a soothing sound with subtle nuances, but the presentation succeeds in doing so. Even though it's one of the most affordable planars on the market, it functions similarly to a planar driver and a dynamic driver crossed over. Let us investigate the sound in more detail.

https://preview.redd.it/brd3mzg3wa3c1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=a2b124f5f51af2acc2352226eb90864cc19edf27

Treble

After losing at the FR, all I could think of was that the treble would sound sibilant and shimmery, but I was mistaken because the treble region is actually quite smooth and extended. The vocals and instruments sound excellent and clear, with good details that stretch without any problems, giving the impression that the music is much farther away. The cymbal crashes in particular are particularly noticeable. The upper treble presence of air is actually present without sounding brittle or tiring in any way. Even though I don't think planar IEMs sound particularly spacious, I don't mind because I value the lack of a surprising tonal quality. While maintaining the same level of quality as the upper treble, I find the lower treble to have a little more energy than the upper, which makes the vocals and instruments sound more alive. I also find the vocals to be more polished and transparent, making them more pleasant to listen to. Overall, the treble region is presented in a seamless, orderly, and detailed manner.

Mid Range

My testing indicates that the mid range is satisfying, rich, and natural. Although the notes are not very refined or detailed, how well they are received reveals something about the driver's caliber. Yes, some 'ss' sounds are audible, but there isn't any heaviness in the vocals or flangy effect to any notes. With greater emphasis on the vocals and instruments, the upper mid range is just as energetic as the lower treble, bringing the vocals and instruments closer together in the mix and enhancing the harmony. The fun nature of the instruments and vocals doesn't detract from the accuracy of the details or have an impact on the high or low frequencies. The vocals sound rich and dense without being overbearing, and the instruments blend in with the vocals to create a melodic sound. The vocals also have the appropriate note weight. One issue I do have, though, is that while the male and female voices are both rich and natural-sounding, the female vocals tend to sound a little sibilant in the higher octaves, as if the driver's limitations are being revealed. Granted, not everything has to be fruit and candy. Due to the abundance of details, the lower mid range sounds thick and dense rather than hazy. It is nearly impossible for a dynamic driver to sound mostly resolved and appealing like the vocals and instruments do. The lower frequencies provide the foundation for this response, which results in the warmth and organic sound. As a result, the mid range region is presented in a natural, melodic, and pleasing manner overall.

Bass

Now for the bass: I adore it so much. It feels like anything is possible because of the thick response's speed and transient response. With a Planar IEM, the bass response is a novel experience. Despite its powerful presence, the bass is subtle enough not to irritate you. The response is obviously not as punchy and refined as it is intricate and detailed, but it still sounds better than dynamic drivers because it has a thumpy and boomy sound that is effective without sounding erratic or out of control. The sub bass area is highlighted because it is sufficiently deep to produce a satisfying rumble in the ear canals, but it is not as well exposed as the midrange slams and thump, which overpower the response as a whole. For the first time, I found the mid bass to be so enjoyable that I would actually prefer it over the sub bass. The slams and thumps are strong without having an overpowering sound because they resolve quickly. There is a noticeable warmth in the mix and a more laid-back sound because the bass does seep into the lower mid range. Regarding bass quality, the details and texture are excellent, but they are not on level with other Planar IEMs. All things considered, the bass region sounds warm, clear, and enjoyable overall.

Technical Performance

Regarding technical performance, I would say that planar IEMs are superior, but this one falls short in my opinion, albeit naturally at the expense of being rich and have natural tones. The details, in my opinion, are not fully expressed. But let's talk about this in more detail.

https://preview.redd.it/2zeftf97wa3c1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=d6584db621e856e933a64b96ecdaa9e76e84ac32

Soundstage, Sound Imaging & Separation

Even though the space is more elliptical than flat, the soundstage is sufficiently large and far enough apart to sound roomy. The imaging is sharp but could have been more clear, and the sound is more left to right, giving it a stereo effect. It is easier to identify the source of the sound when there is good separation between the notes due to variations in their distance and distinction.

Speed & Resolution

I find the details to be averagely expressed, perhaps because I was expecting more from a Planar IEM, but the resolution is excellent and the detail retrieval is sufficient to bring in sufficient micro and macro nuances. However, the notes' attack and decay are tactical and incredibly paced.

Sound Impressions

Sources

Sony WM1A - As usual, the sound is smooth, warm, and has more dynamics in the lower frequencies. With the exception of the nuances produced in the higher frequencies as the bell chimes and cymbal crashes sound captivating, the entire presentation sounds denser and richer without sacrificing the quality of the notes or their details. Although I do find the bass to be a little influencing, it sounds a little looser than usual and has no effect on the IEM's integrity of tuning.

Tempotec V6 - More clarity and genuine Planar capabilities are brought out by the V6, which gives Melody a faster, more detailed sound with excellent details. The instruments sound clearer and more forward, but the ss sound is more audible. The vocals sound more forward and distinct. It sounds tighter and more focused with a more nuanced bass. As a result, I prefer the V6's sound.

Conclusion

To conclude this review, I will acknowledge that this is one of the most reasonably priced Planar IEMs. It also has a unique tuning approach that is well-executed, making it worthwhile to try, especially for people who prefer planers to dynamic drivers because it sounds similar and, in my opinion, has better properties. For that reason, I heartily suggest this IEM to anyone looking to experience a warm, well-balanced planar sound.

Omg I m so happy I just copped a pair of new Steelseries Arctis Nova 1 for 7 dollars!! I live in Eastern Europe, and there s a store with returned products from Amazon, and I ve found these with 7 dollars, and they were just missing a screw from the earcup, maybe people thought they were broken, I put a screw there, and now they're like new, also they look perfect and don t have any other faults. I love them, they sound great, and were dirt cheap. Also for a gaming headset I really like listening to music with them on, they have quite good highs, good lows, and they look sleek enough with the retractable mic to take them on the go.

Me a moment later: Do they all the have the plastic rings included or do I have to buy them separately?

Me few hours later: I found elsewhere that plastic rings are included. Im placing an order but there is a problem. It says the shipping costs 178 dollars!!! That cannot be right. I put a screenshot here. Please help, I need the pads soon.

Hifiman the next day: Hi there, Sorry for the inconvenience caused. Can you please tell us the items you would like to buy with us? We will calculate the total price for you and help you tp proceed with the payment. Regards X

Hello everyone, During the black Friday I bought the Fidelio X2HR. I read online that, before using new headphones, you have to do a "burn-in" for several hours. I connected the Fidelio to my DAC/AMP (a Fiio K9) and I left them there for several hours while a mix of music and pink noise was playing. However, since I'm used to my old 150 ohm headphones (superlux hd681 evo), I putted the volume almost at max level (low gain), to be precise the knob was a little over the 3 o'clock position. Now I'm using my new Fidelio but the details, the clarity and especially the highs seem worse than my old headphones, but maybe it's just my perception I can't tell for sure. I noticed that my Fidelio sounds better at lower volumes, the bass don't overshadow other instruments, however I still get the impression that they don't sound as good as my old ones. Will the sound of the Fidelio improve over time?is it just my impression and I just have to get use to the new headphones? Or should I return the Fidelio back?

I have Sony XM5 headphones and I just use the padding that comes with the headphones, but it seems they’ve gotten a little dirty. I’d really like to clean them, even if it’s just a little cleaner than before. The audio part sticks out right in the middle and directly touches the padding. These are expensive and I love these headphones, these were a gift and I cant afford to buy new ones so if I mess it up I’ll be headphone-less and full of shame.

Do you guys know Sharur ? He is a controversial youtuber that says moondrop variations and some weirds headphones are better because of the FR response, he uses good arguments but I'm not sure if we can trust in his opinion or not.

I bought hifiman 400se ( waiting to arrive)
and he literally says this headphone is sh**

Lol

So all Seinheiser headphones, hifiman, and other brands are "bad" ?

I’ve recently switched from Spotify to Tidal, and I really can hear the difference between Spotify AAC and Tidal CD quality (at least when streaming from MacBook).

However, I want more. I want to hear HD. My primary devices are iPhone as input and B&W PX7 S2 headphones as output. My current understanding is that I need a DAC for my phone to transfer anything better than AAC. My headphones support aptX HD, which I think would be enough, at 24bit 48kHz. Does something like a BT DAC that would transfer iPhone signal to aptX HD exist, or should I buy a standard DAC to connect with wire and sacrifice the comfort?

Also, am I really hearing the max quality at least when connected straight to MacBook Pro? They say that the headphone jack supports 24bit/96kHz, but isn’t there more into it?

Thanks for any opinions, I’m new in this and really want to learn how does it all work.

So, I’m listening to 8d music rn and it doesn’t tickle my brain or back anymore and it makes me upset! I used to laugh a lot while listening to it, coz it feels like my brain is being tickled. I used to think I could orgasm from it lol💀. How do I get that feeling back?🥲

Hello, everyone

does anybody here have an experience with broken hinge on Audio-Technica headphones? I had my ATH-M40X headphones for something like a year now and unfortunately, I was not taking proper care of them as I should. Now the hinge on the right side is broken :(. Do you know if it is possible to buy spare parts? I tried contacting Audio-Technica support, but did not get any response yet. I also tried to repair them by 3D printing the broken part, but the model I found didn't fit well.

I am located in Czechia/Slovakia.
