I can see now why some people choose to become religious.
Why? What?
The tought of a higher being looking out for you is comforting
Observational evidence suggests to me that if there is a 'higher' being, it is in no way looking out for us. It is much more likely to be the supernatural equivalent of a 10-year old pulling the wings off of flies and cooking ants with a magnifying glass.
If this is looking after people then I wonder what other people in the universe are experiencing. Are we all being treated so poorly?
They're saying the idea is nice. Not that it's real. When all hope is lost, it would be handy to have an omnipotent being on your side. So the idea of one existing would be comforting, regardless of the actual existence.
No it's not. It's a terrifying thought and I would happily kill God if I could.
