Or this actress didn’t want to grow out pit hair for a comedy show. Not everything is that deep
Make-up departments exist. It being a deliberate choice by the production makes much more sense.
It's very possible it just never came up. Especially if it's a male-run production. The male gaze just assumes a woman doesn't have pit hair, and if she doesn't think of it and bring it up, nobody does.
She probably takes her hairless pits for granted through long habit as we ll.
The rest of the job is basically rub "mud" product through her hair and all over her body. More attention paid to the face for closeups. (She's got lipstick and contouring and probably mascara as well, a "no makeup" makeup.) Should some makeup artist have thought of it and glued some hair trimmings to her pits? Yes. But while it would be easy in this scene/pose, it would be uncomfortable and easily shed during scenes where she needs to use her arms, and then you run into continuity problems. (I don't know the show but I assume she doesn't spend the whole time crucified like that)
There's probably a merkin for pits, or there could be. That would have been funny.
I just learned there's a fly, for fly fishing, called the strong arm merkin. Yes, they're furry:

Which goes back to the above: "Americans are crazy. having perfectly natural hair under her armpits would be unacceptably disgusting for an American"
Wouldn't want to accurately portray women's natural bodies lest they think it might be acceptable to be unshaven.
Or maybe she, the actress, prefers it, and she, the actress, didn't want to change something superficial for the show.
Personally I don't like body hair. It's coarse and irritating.
I still believe there should be more representation in media of women with body hair.
We should normalize picking what's best for each person individually and not trying to portray a certain way that women are "supposed" to look.
Funnily enough, I personally prefer body hair because it's softer than stubble. But that's my personal preference and not one I tell others that they should do just to please me. (not saying you are doing this, just putting thoughts to words).
Fiona Dourif did a fantastic job portraying Bart in this show. If being clean shaven is how they wanted to appear on screen, I think their right to do so supersedes any obligation they have to 'normalize' anything for anyone else. It certainly did not harm the performance.
I'm not criticizing their performance or their individual choices.
I'm criticizing how the media wants to portray women as completely hairless all of the time.
The media is made up of individuals with their own choices or autonomy. It's fair to say "I wish this got more representation in media" but it's entity unfair to criticise specific individuals for not upholding a specific standard. The original premise was "what if being clean shaven was her choice?" in which case it would be nobody's place to hold that against her.
Women being hairless is a manufactured media campaign. We are born with hair, we grow hair, hair on women is natural. The prevalence of showing women as hairless below our eyebrows is a deliberate choice and it is not simply down to individual preferences.
Again, nobody has an obligation to change their body for the sake of normalizing a certain beauty standard. If the actor doesn't want to grow out it's their right not to do so. You can't criticise individuals for industry trends.
Applaud diversity when you see it, but don't critisise people just for being themselves.

I am criticizing the media for only showing women as hairless.
Do I need to explain this again in different words for you to understand I'm not attacking the actresses' personal choice?

When EggInDisguise suggests that it may be personal choice and you chime in to say that representation matters as a response, it sort of comes across like you don't think the actor's preferences matter over the end goal of changing the media landscape.
This is a produced television show. Nothing the actress is wearing is her choice in the show.
I will fight tooth and nail for anyone to choose how they present their body. I don't care if people shave or don't shave.
I do care about how the media presents women and the affect it has on how society expects women to look and behave.
Assuming that actors literally have no choice at all is a bit short sighted. The original premise of the whole thread was 'what if that's just their preference'?

Look- I didn’t respond that it would be nice to see more representation as a dig at this actress. I think you’re fundamentally misunderstanding that.
Even if the actress chose to present hairless in this show, it would still be nice to see more representation of diversity throughout media. Tv shows, movies, ads, etc.

Natural body is a polite way of framing ungroomed. Men nor women like seeing poor hygiene. Some types of poor hygiene are seen as worse than others. Dirty hair? Sorta gross. Body hair? Disgusting.
Oh, men are supposed to shave their body hair or they’re disgusting?
I mean, I'm morally consistent on this one in that I think everyone looks better smooth. Yall can be hairy if you want though.

My husband loves my hairy body. 🤷♂️ Finding hair disgusting and unsanitary isn’t a natural state for men, it’s something you’ve been taught. Clean hair isn’t unhygienic.
In my instance armpit hair is unhygienic. If I don't remove it, my BO will break through 72h deoderant in 4 hours.
And if I don't shave my balls I get a psorisis flareup in an area you really don't want psorisis.
Can I assume you also believe that women only want hairy men then? Because I'm pretty certain you're going to get pushback on that too.
