The Timberwolves now sit at 13-4, the current #1 seed in the Western Conference, almost 1/4 through the season.

Rudy Gobert defensive rating: 102.3 (#1 in the league)

KAT defensive rating: 104 (#2 in the league this year / averaged 109 historically)

Timberwolves: 106.6 (#1 in the league)

If they make the finals this year; are we still saying it was an overpay?

As a Timberwolves fan, I'd say it's ALREADY worth it. There were multiple full seasons where we literally barely won as much the whole year as have right now at 13. We're relevant. We're fun to watch. We're playing for today. We're in contention. We haven't had that in 20 years. I don't care what non-Timberwolves fans think tbh. They don't get it. Most of yall skip around with your favorite players anyway. You don't know what it's like to follow a losing team for decades. Only Kings bros can talk to us. I'm not losing sleep over some basic bench players and some #25-30 draft picks. We aren't #1 in the West without Gobert. Full stop.

Now I'm gonna enjoy this season that (barring injuries) will continue to be a blast

This is what people don't get about us Nuggets fans being so passionate about Jokic and our current squad in general.

Im a lifetime nuggets fan. I was going to games when Antonio McDyess was our best player. As late as 2017 I would've laughed at you if you said the Nuggets would ever win a ring. Getting to the WCF during The bubble was the peak of my fandom and never thought I could ask for more from this franchise.

Big market/perennially good fanbases will never understand, and will always try to make us (and yall) feel stupid for caring about finally having SOMETHING. Fuck em all.

cmon, let's not exaggerate here.
it's a trade that will definitely bear fruits if things work out - which they seem to be on track to. But it's not worth it right now.

If you've never had to convince yourself that Ryan Gomes and Craig Smith are on the cusp of becoming good then you just don't get it.

Shved just needs to be more relaxed, he’s a hood shooter I swear. Also, Derrick Williams is going to get back his senior year at UoA form, I promise.

Kris Dunn the real slim KD

Alexey change this face, be happy, enjoy!

Man hearing Ricky's not playing bc mental health reasons got me bummed out, dude beamed and radiated joy and dumb injuries never let him be the Jkidd or Nash he could have been.. I'm not even sure what he's going thru rn just hope he gets through it ;__;

[–] YungSzczerbiak@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Shved could’ve been really good if he was good at basketball

Pure, unadulterated copium lol

[–] ScratchTwoMore@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I skip around with my favourite players.

My favourite player is Ant.

I am now a Wolves fan.

[–] davensdad@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I'm so happy for you guys. Truly deserve it. You guys already have a very young and talented team so building a winning environment is so much more important than just gambling for prospects ala 76ers back then

[–] Minnesota-@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

100% agree. I think people also forget how brutal it is overall to be a MN men’s sports fan. Our teams are sometimes good enough to get our hopes up, but not enough to do anything big. This team this year is the most fun I’ve ever had watching the wolves as a lifelong fan. I am genuinely optimistic and excited for the future of this team

[–] CornCob_Dildo@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

You never had to watch Troy brown and bob sura on the warriors and it shows.

[–] Quick_Recognition259@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It definitely isn't already worth it because it can still go sideways. We shouldn't be so quick to crown them in November. However they are doing everything they should be at the moment.

[–] DowntownJohnBrown@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah this whole thread feels like people pushing backing against the early overreactions with…more overreactions. The Wolves are a tough 10-game stretch away from being like a 5-seed. The Pelicans and Grizzlies both spent about a week in December last year as the 1-seed in the West, and how did their seasons end up?

Let’s at least maybe get halfway through the season before we start applauding a trade for turning a team into a championship contender.

[–] samamatara@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

i feel like pelicans would have kept up the momentum had zion stayed healthy. wouldnt compare to them. this wolves team looks very strong, nobody is crowning them as champions, just celebrating a very good start

[–] jinyx1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

100%, other fan bases don't understand Minnesota sports at all. We have been dying to see a good Timberwolves team forever. Now that it's here you see Target Center packed night after night with the most passionate crowd in the league.

I dare anyone to actually watch a Wolves home game and see all that excitement and energy and then say "overpay".

[–] DevilsReject1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I wasn't even aware people attended weeknight games until this year. It's wild seeing a sellout on a Tuesday night.

[–] Radical-Six@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

People have thought that MN isn't a good basketball state because we're the state if hockey, but it's really been because the team has been so bad for so long nobody wants to go to the games. MN is a great basketball state, we're pumping out multiple 4* or higher HS recruits per year now, and obviously the crowds at Target Center

[–] starfruit213@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

It's really too bad Coyle is a terrible AD and made the hires here has. The barn is dead as can be.

[–] someHumanMidwest@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Badgers have won a lot of big ten games with decent-enough kids from Minnesota who you should be kept in state.

[–] Comrade_Falcon@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Such a bummer. The Barn when it's packed and has energy is my favorite sports venue in Minnesota.

[–] SirDiego@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah but those picks could be anybody!! They could even be a player like Rudy Gobert!

[–] LamarMillerMVP@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

This is an insane take. I need Wolves fans to take just one minute to put their thinking caps on and imagine that it’s 2026. Anthony Edwards is entering his prime at 25. He’s a top 3 player in the league. He’s alongside Jaden McDaniels, who is an elite defensive player. Naz Reid is 27, in his prime, KAT is 31 and aging gracefully with his shooting. Gobert is 34 and barely a presence anymore, but the regular seasons were great!

This team is one impact player away from contending. So they trade their first round pick for a PG. Wait, sorry, they already traded it for Gobert, who is no longer playing. So they trade next year’s pick. Oh, sorry, wait, they’ve already traded that one too. So they trade the following year’s pick. Oh wait, they can only swap that pick, because of Rudy Gobert. So they trade the following year’s pick. Wouldn’t you know it! They traded that pick for Rudy Gobert :(. Rudy Gobert is NO LONGER ON THE TEAM at this point. And they won’t even be halfway to paying off what they paid for him. Which happens to be, roughly, every first round pick that lines up with Anthony Edwards’ prime.

The next three years better be REALLY, REALLY good. Because the Timberwolves just traded all of their trade ammunition from Anthony Edwards’ prime, in exchange for the rights to pay Rudy Gobert a max contract until he’s 34. If the Wolves don’t win a championship, this was a massive mess up. Because they are borrowing from the best championship window this team is probably ever going to have in 2026-2028. It’s insane they did this trade. If they win a championship, all is forgiven of course. But it’s unhinged to suggest that being good for 17 games one year makes it already worthwhile. Do you understand what they gave up here?

[–] SemataryPolka@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Tldr

Don't be a miserable fuck. Nobody likes it.

[–] DevilsReject1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That's a valid concern, but you're missing a few things:

In 2026 they can trade picks out to 2033.

You're completely writing Rudy off because he's 34. He'll decline, but defensive big men don't fall off a cliff with age. KG, Duncan, Hakeem, etc were defensive forces until 40. KG could barely run up and down the court and was our best defender at 39. Rudy will have positive value into his mid-30s.

Having a quality team and a superstar in Ant attracts free agents and trade candidates. People wanted to play for OKC when they were good. Hell, Kyrie wanted MN when Jimmy was here. Superstars bring in cheap ring chasers and friends.

[–] Foul_xeno@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

34? The man is 31 ffs

[–] hotpiejr@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Do you understand that they have the ability to recoup assets?

[–] runthepoint1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

As a “Kings bro”, I want to say congrats. And also fuck you for eliminating us when you had KG. That was the last good basketball we even had until recently.

[–] Iron_Chic@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Only Kings bros can talk to us

Bullshit. Warriors were crap in the 80s, 90s, 2000s and first part of the 2010s. Clips were terrible for the same tume period.

[–] SemataryPolka@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Lol this is the dumbest shit I've ever heard in my life. You think WARRIORS FANS know what it's like to suffer? How many championships do you guys have again? And don't forget Wilt & Rick Barry. Poor suffering Warriors fans. You're New Lakers

And the Clippers? Maybe in 2005 but I don't know if you've noticed but ever since they drafted Blake Griffin they've been perennial contenders who get huge free agents. And they are in LOS ANGELES

Seriously, delete this lol

[–] Iron_Chic@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No, I will not. We were TERRIBLE before Steph fell to us (thanks, btw!). At least you guys had KG and were making and winning playoff games. We had zero playoff appearances from 1994-2006, then had We Believe, then back to shit for another 6 years.

[–] Intelligent_Pain_174@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

99% of Warriors fans didn't even know the Warriors had a team in the 80s, 90s, or 00s.

[–] Gripfighting@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I swear I remember a grocery store promotion from one of the seasons following the KG trade, where if you bought a certain amount of cans of a brand of canned vegetables, you'd get a free wolves ticket. It's been almost 20 years since I believed in the team like I do right now.

[–] WembyandTheWolves@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

My wife and I used to get the 2 tickets a 2 liter and a large single papa johns pizza for $30 deal. We saw so many Wolves games that way and helped us get through a stretch when we really couldn't afford dates.
