During a Tuesday hearing at the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, the DOJ urged a three-judge panel to issue an emergency stay of a lower court order and allow the Trump administration’s deployment of the California National Guard to continue in Los Angeles — going so far as to argue a president’s federalization of militia can’t be second-guessed by the courts, even if the chief executive mobilized forces from all 50 states and Washington, D.C., simultaneously.

It's ironic of you to ask me what the goal of elections is. As far as I can tell, democrats worship the status quo and civility. I used to think that democrats didn't utilize political power when they had it, because that would be "tacky" or something. Now I've seen enough to realize that they don't really want to change anything. If you keep voting for people like that, what can you possibly hope to achieve, aside from just to "win"?

democrats worship the status quo and civility.

I like those things. Those are both better than fascism. Wish the dumbfucks that abstained from voting or voted 3rd party could understand that. With how much you're pushing back and whining, I'm assuming you're one of those dumbfucks.

Spoiler Alert: The 3rd party candidate with the most votes was magician Jill Stein, who magically appears right before every election, then magically disappears again afterwards. She got a whopping HALF OF A SINGLE PERCENT of the total votes cast.

So unless you're braindead, you'd realize that America is nowhere near being over this 2-party thing. So voting 3rd party is FUUUUUUUUCKING STUPID, especially when one of the options is a FUCKING FASCIST.

You want more parties? Get off your fucking ass and help one start winning local/state elections so they can start actually having less than zero members in Congress so they can maybe one day run a presidential candidate that can win.

The status quo is fascism. Civility with fascists is fascism. Your team gives the impression that as long as the bad stuff happens overseas or in poor neighborhoods, and you aren't forced to look at it, then all is right with the world. You're upset because a few million people refuse to cosign terror and genocide, while I'm upset that hundreds of millions are so willing.

It's ironic that you're lecturing "democrats" on worshipping the status quo while parroting the current right wing status quo propaganda. If you ignore what the media says, and instead look at actual votes (congress.gov) or watch congressional sessions on cspan, it should be very clear that a good amount of democrats tend to be the ones trying to govern, while the right wingers are constantly sabotaging everything they do in the name of corporate profit, then blaming dem's for the fallout from whatever shitty thing the right wingers did instead of what the dem's wanted.

Can't tell you how many times I've watched dems lay out thoroughly researched, thoughtful plans on policy, or thoroughly explain how the policies the far-right implemented are screwing working-class Americans, only to have some right winger passionately "rebut" their arguments with complete nonsense, get their 5 second media clips, then sit down and stare at their phones not paying attention until it's their time to talk again.

Everything they tell you dem's are doing, they're the ones doing it. And now they're telling you that what I'm saying is what OUR propaganda is telling us. It's all bullshit. I've been watching the behind the scenes stuff for almost 10 years. It's been this way the entire time. And btw, I started doing this because I used to consider myself a libertarian until I started noticing the lies. Particularly how the party of "individual freedom" fought so hard against same sex marriage (a freedom heteros have, that every INDIVIDUAL of legal age should have). I bought completely into the propaganda and didn't realize how far I was from understanding what was actually going on until I really started questioning everything. I hope you can muster the intellectual honesty to question things in a similar way.

Newsflash: the republicans fucking win with their bullshit. A major component of politics is connecting with people. You can connect with lies and you can connect with truth, but long, technocratic explanations rarely. Like it or not, sound bites win elections.

[–] timmy_dean_sausage@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, that is the current paradigm we live in. I would argue that it's this way because of how effective the right wing propaganda machine has been over the last 4.5 decades.

So, you're saying lies and propaganda are cool as long as your team keeps winning?

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, you've misunderstood me. You can't enact policies if you don't win, right? And you won't get reelected if people feel you bullshitted about your promises. So first step is winning, right? As I said, there's different ways to win, including lying or telling the truth. Has nothing to do with being "cool" or not. I'm just saying that dem messaging sucks, and their track record sucks.

I don't think winning elections justifies an entire propaganda network existing for the sole purpose of manipulating the masses into being the foot soldiers in a class war against themselves. I also don't think the people who would lie and manipulate like that could possibly be the same people that would dismantle the current billionaire-centric economic structure. I think, if you're a right winger in current US politics, you're extremely ignorant, short-sighted, or intentionally invested in transferring wealth from the poor to the super wealthy. The right is ultra neo-liberalism mixed with overt oligarchy. The left is neo-liberalism lite mixed with subtle oligarchy, but heavily fractured between that group and a different group that is actually constantly trying to change things for the better. If you're paying attention, there's a clearly better choice for working class Americans. But people like you would rather argue right wing points into the ground (they never hold up to logic or real data) until you can't argue them anymore, then shift to "well at least our evil behavior brings us wins!". You're not an American.

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 1 points 5 hours ago

I think you're arguing with a figment of your own imagination. Nowhere have I said anything about winning at all costs for its own sake. I'm observing that the current dem strategy isn't a winning one (indisputable), and I'm telling you why. Look, here's a good example from the last election: people were not feeling good about the economy. Trump has an answer for them. It's the wrong answer (tariffs and deportations), but he is engaging with a real concern. The democrat answer was "actually you're wrong, the economy is great, look at the stock market". They're stuck, because as the party of the status quo, they can't propose any radical changes to the system. They don't want any radical changes to the system. This means that in effect, they aren't even competing with republicans! I'm asking you to demand that your party compete.
