Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

The " long journey home from strange lands" conceit of this show was so great.

Sadly not fully realised. Imagine Year of Hell as an entire season. Battle Damage, wear and tear, limited resources (looking at you shuttles and delta flyer 2) and limited personnel.

No need to imagine, we have BSG

I would have also loved to see them go full ship of Theseus and have the entire ship and crew replaced by various repairs and refugees they picked up along the way. So by the time they got "home" not only would they be seeing it for the first time, but that what made it home was the Federation culture that the original crew embodied.

Anyway, that in particular story would never happen in the visual mediums.

Or, they finally receive a communication from Starfleet that says: "Voyager, hold present position. You are now Federation Colony 'Delta 1.'"

"This will be the final communication from the free human race in the Alpha quadrant. The Dominion-Borg alliance has launched planet busters at Earth. Carry the Federation spirit with you always. Goodbye."

It could work in animation, where you could replace characters without having to fire voice actors. For example, IIRC Fred Tatasciore does a bunch of other voices in addition to Shaxs.

Or you could just have Jeffrey Combs be the main cast, LOL.

Hah! I suggested almost the same thing before reading your comment. I agree.

Anyway, that in particular story would never happen in the visual mediums.

I dunno. The SFX crew would probably love to kitbash the ship more and more each season. Meanwhile, the merchandising opportunities would be off the chart. "Voyager? Yes, which season/version of the ship are we talking about? There are seven."

but that what made it home was the Federation culture that the original crew embodied.

That's pretty much the core theme behind Prodigy, so we know that would have worked as a narrative device. Too bad they didn't give that a shot back then.

I get the impression that this is hard to do right. I am so incredibly thankful that the Battlestar Galactica reboot went there for pretty much the entire series, and did a great job. Heck, I even cared about the ship by the time it was all done. Meanwhile, Stargate:Universe screwed it up at every opportunity.

IMO Voyager, as both a crew and as a ship, should have been unrecognizable by the end of the voyage. I'm talking all sorts of exotic tech bolted to the hull, a greater Delta Quadrant crew compliment, crew diet of hydroponics from very distant worlds, and maybe even a few additional ships in formation. They even bothered to mention the bio-electronic ship systems in the flippin' pilot, which could have turned into a sentient starship or something. It could have been epic.

EDIT although I argue that it was very well realized if you consider the constraints they were working within.

Imagine Year of Hell as an entire season.

I've heard that observation before, and it's truly tragic how close this show got to being truly legendary.

Reminds me of how much woker DS9 could have been, too.

Small minds have always tried to constrain trek into a safe little sci-fi tv show box. Sad.

Do yourselves a favor and watch the Battlestar Galactica reboot from the 2000s. It'll scratch that itch quite a bit, I promise.

Hehehe I already have, and you are very right!
